Henry G. Heggins Sr.

Henry G. Heggins Sr. died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 70.

Mr. Heggins was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was an Air Force veteran, having served in Korea and Vietnam and retired in 1972 after 22 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Moose Lodge and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He owned and operated Discount Furniture Barn in Vicksburg and Heggins Enterprises in Port Gibson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman W. and Ina Mae Heggins; and a son, Henry G. “Phil” Heggins Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Miyo O. Heggins of Vicksburg; two sons, Shigero Heggins of Greenville, S.C., and John H. Heggins of Vicksburg; a daughter, Mary Landers of Port Gibson; two brothers, Johnnie Heggins of Greenwood and Billy Heggins of Vicksburg; five sisters, Helen Henley of Vicksburg, Jeannie Ogden of Delhi, Ancie Greer of Mozelle, Louise Cosby of Newark, Texas, and Mettie Alexander of Delta; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Toby Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Billy Joe Heggins, Terry Easterling, James Purvis, Brent Hopkins, Jason Gordon and Wayne Muirhead.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 31st Infantry Dixie Division, Moose Lodge and American Legion and T.D. Easterling, Tal Sheffield, Glen McKay, Willie Johnson and Pete Wardlaw.

Mary T. Johnson

Mary T. Johnson died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 87.

Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Johnson Sr.; a son, Willie Leon “Micky” Johnson; and a daughter, Lois Lee.

Survivors include two sons, Jesse Johnson Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., and Darrell Johnson Jr. of Vicksburg; six daughters, Myrtle D. Chong of Vicksburg, Esther Taylor of San Diego, Calif., Doris Jacobs and Claudette Luke, both of Vacherie, La., Gayle Johnson of Jackson and Brenda Johnson of Saugus, Calif.; a brother, William Warren of Vicksburg; and other relatives and friends.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Thelma Jordan

OAK GROVE Thelma Jordan died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at Carroll Nursing Home in Oak Grove. She was 86.

Mrs. Jordan was a resident of Oak Grove.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Odell Jordan; her parents, Charles Walker McGee and Minnie Lexie McGee; and two sisters, Dovie Booth and Lucille Amos.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Jordan of Albany, Ore., and C.W. Jordan of Lake Village, Ark., a sister, Vernie Caldwell of Elora, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Keith Riley officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Marla Frith, Kevin Jordan, Greg Jordan, Scott Jordan, Michael Jordan, Christopher Jordan and Paula Jordan.

Lucille Mills

Services for Lucille Mills will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill No. 1 Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 tonight at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Mills died Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 96.

She was a member of Rose Hill No. 1, where she was former president of the usher board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry J. Mills; a son, Jake Pempton; her parents, Jesse and Lou Laster; two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include a niece, Geneva Phelps of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including Charlie Robb of Vicksburg.
