Mary A. Batschelet

PIERCE CITY, Mo. Mary A. Batschelet died Monday, July 12, 2004, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Mo. She was 78.

Mrs. Batschelet was a resident of Pierce City, Mo.

She is survived by her husband, Elmer Batschelet of Pierce City; six daughters, Doris Batschelet of Mesquite, Texas, Donna Benesch of San Clement, Calif., Alice Gore of Allen, Texas, Linda Jabour of Brandon, formerly of Vicksburg, and Mary Lou Morley and Karen Nine, both of Neosho, Mo.; two sons, John Batschelet of Kansas City, Mo., and Donald Batschelet of Pierce City; three sisters, Gladys Anderson of Marionville, Mo., Marian Harald of Nixa, Mo., and Iona Hollis of Chesapeake, Mo.; a brother, John Holmberg of New Brighton, Minn.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City with the Rev. John Masters officiating. Burial will follow at Jolly Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to First Congernational Church in Pierce City.

Prentiss Herschel Baughman

FAIRHOPE, Ala. Prentiss Herschel Baughman died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, Ala. He was 84.

Born in Sandy Hook, Mr. Baughman was a resident of Fairhope who retired as a major from the Marine Corps, as deputy director of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and director of the Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Marine Corps League, Veterans of Foreign Wars and St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Maj. Baughman was preceded in death by his wives, Eleanor G. Baughman and Betty Uptagrafft Baughman.

Survivors include three sons, Steven Baughman of Atlanta, Ga., Bruce Baughman of Saraland, Ala., and Brian Baughman of Jackson; two daughters, Susan Baughman Guepe of Atlanta and Martha B. Roberts of Vicksburg; three brothers, Donald Baughman of Trinity, Texas, Edward Baughman of Livingston, Texas, and Robert Baughman of Bassfield; a sister, Mary McFerrin of Calhoun City; a stepson, Danny Clark of Spanish Fort, Ala.; three stepdaughters, Beverly Gartman of Spanish Fort, Joanne Tate of Mobile, Ala., and Gina Bagley of Douglas, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

A Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope. Burial will follow at Silverhill Cemetery under the direction of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Homes and Crematory.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mary Jane Wells Bingham

Mary Jane Wells Bingham died Monday, July 12, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 65.

Mrs. Bingham was retired from Anderson-Tully. She was a member of St. Paul M.B. Church, where she was in the choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Booker T. Wells Sr. and Elizabeth Combs Wells; two brothers, Booker T. Wells Jr. and Joseph Wells Sr.; and two sisters, Martha Wells Butler and Ernestine Wells Carter.

Survivors include two sons, Lee Andrew Bingham and Louis Edward Jackson Sr.; four daughters, Bobbie Bingham Morrow, Carolyn Bingham Howard, LaShonda Patrice Bingham and Shalonda Bingham Henderson; three brothers, Alphonse Wells Sr., Curtis Wells Sr. and James Edward Wells; and three sisters, Annie Mae Wells Franklin, Nancy Lee Wells Bailey and Maple Wells Hudson.

Jane Alice Buttrum

Jane Alice Buttrum died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 69.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Buttrum had been in sales at J.C. Penney for six years. She was a volunteer for Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the Silver Beaver medal. She was a member of Bradley’s Chapel United Methodist Church and Acacia Chapter No. 56 Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Buttrum; her parents, Samuel Melton and Stella Gertrude Brown Ward; and a brother, Sam Ward.

Survivors include a son, William Buttrum of Eagle River, Alaska; five brothers, Jimmy Ward of Rankin County, Dan Ward of Portland, Tenn., Jerry Ward of Satartia and Terry Ward and Milton Ward, both of Bentonia.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Green Acres Cemetery with Paul Barnes officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Martin Pace, Ike Barnes Jr., Mark Hinson, Jesse Brent, William Buttrum and Corey Barnes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Lester, Doug Hooks, Dale Barnes, Vivian Middleton and Dr. Gloria Butler.

Mamie Pearl Daniel

HOULKA, Miss. Mamie Pearl Daniel died Monday, July 12, 2004, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Pontotoc. She was 85.

A resident of Houlka, Miss., Mrs. Daniel was a former merchant at Indianapolis Glove Company and was a member of Robbs United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Martha Daniel LeCornu of Houlka and Faye Daniel Wilkinson of Vicksburg; a son, Jerry L. Daniel of Houlka; a brother, Velon Pruitt of Houlka; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce with the Rev. Keith Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Robbs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Daniel, Timothy LeCornu, Michael Ralph, Stephen Ralph, Bert Wilkinson and Brad Wilkinson.

Lessie Mixon Weir

PORT GIBSON Lessie Mixon Weir died Monday, July 12, 2004, at Claiborne County Hospital. She was 92.

A native of Marion County, Mrs. Weir had lived in Ruth for 60 years before moving to Port Gibson 3 1/2 years ago. She was a seamstress for Stahl Urban Co. in Brookhaven for many years and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Lincoln County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Ernest Mixon and Sarah Eva Herrington.

Survivors include a son, Elmo Weir of Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters, Mary Evelyn Trevilion of Port Gibson and Frankie Clemts of Dunnellon, Fla.; a brother, Loyd Mixon of McComb; three sisters, Eula Williamson of Brookhaven, Lois Durio of Layfayette, La., and Nell Martin of Fernwood; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Ruth Cemetery under the direction of Community Funeral Services in Brookhaven.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Thursday until the service at the church.
