John William Brennan

MUSKOGEE, Okla. John William Brennan died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Muskogee Regional Medical Center in Muskogee, Okla. He was 79.

Mr. Brennan was a 1948 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy. He was commissioned in the Army Corps of Engineers and received a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois.

In 1968 he was assigned as regional district engineer in Vicksburg, where he was responsible for all water and flood control projects along the Mississippi from Memphis to Natchez. Mr. Brennan retired as a colonel in 1976 and had been a resident of Muskogee since 1998. He was of the Catholic faith and was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Claire Anthis Brennan of Muskogee; three sons, John W. Brennan Jr. of Muskogee, R. Sean Brennan of Houston, Texas, and Michael F. Brennan; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Brennan of Pine Bluff, Ark.; a brother, Bill Brennan of Manitowoc, Wis.; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bradley Funeral Home in Muskogee. Burial will be at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.

Visitation will be from noon Saturday until the service at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be his sons and Dr. Douglas Holt.

Geneva Lucille Donahue

Services for Geneva Lucille Donahue will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Green M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. Sunday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Donahue died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 91.

She was a member of Pleasant Green M.B. Church, where she was in the choir. She was retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District and Chicago Public Schools.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Mount Alban Union Society No. 1 and Vicksburg Chapter No. 1 Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Donahue; one sister, Alletha Plummer Stewart; and one brother, George Plummer.

Survivors include a stepson, Theodore Donahue Jr. of Chicago; two stepdaughters, Gwendolyn Donahue Hudson and Sylvia Donahue Hampton, both of Chicago; and other relatives, including Alexandria Stewart of Jackson and Maggie Brown and Delores Brown Flaggs, both of Vicksburg.

Helen Hunter

PORT GIBSON Helen Hunter died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Claiborne County Nursing Center. She was 77.

A resident of Port Gibson, Mrs. Hunter was a member and mother at Second Union Baptist Church and a member of the Baptist Aid.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Hunter of Utica; a son, Ray Barnes of Fort Hood, Texas; five daughters, Dorothy Wilson of Tulsa, Okla., Shirley Barnes of Louisville, Ky., Catherine Rogers of Vicksburg, Wanda Weathersby of Port Gibson and Karen Hunter of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Betty J. McDowell of Chicago; a brother, Arthur “Brad” Barnes of Pattison; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Second Union Baptist Church in Utica with the Rev. Michael Reed officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Lynn Travis Shows

DELHI Lynn Travis Shows died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Delhi Hospital. He was 83.

Born in Jonesboro, La., Mr. Shows was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the First Baptist Church of Delhi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William David Shows and Francis Swanner Shows.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Shows of Delhi, and two daughters, Janet Whitehead of Delhi and Kathy Thompson of Belle Chase, La.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Delhi with Dr. Marcus Murphy officiating. Burial will be at the Crowville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi.

Pallbearers will be Jan Phillips, Johnny Sproles, Jim Parker, Milton Ringle, Jack Bradley and Donald Gilmore.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Louis Tyler

Services for Louis Tyler will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Tyler died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at University Community Hospital in Tampa, Fla. He was 72.

He was a former resident of Vicksburg, where he retired from the railroad.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben Tyler and Helen Ciller; three sisters, Natalie Lee Singleton, Ella Mae Myles and Lucinda Williams; and one brother, Frank Ciller.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Jean Tyler of Bowie, Md.; one son, Michael Anthony Tyler of Gaithersburg, Md.; four daughters, Wanda Faye Pickeral and Louise Tyler, both of Bowie, Tracie Lynn Tyler of Laurel, Md., and Gloria Jean Tyler of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, George Lacey of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; nine stepchildren; and other relatives and friends.
