Mary Lee Williams Cooksey

Services for Mary Lee “Mae-Mae” Williams Cooksey will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Beech Grove M.B. Church on Redbone Road with the Rev. James Buck officiating. Burial will follow at Beech Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Cooksey died Monday, July 19, 2004, at her home. She was 61.

A Vicksburg resident, Mrs. Cooksey was a homemaker and a member of the Adult Choir at Beech Grove M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Cooksey; her parents, Alex and Ruth Nix Williams; and a brother, Ray Williams.

Survivors include three daughters, Lydia Myers, Ramona Bryant and Patricia Hemphill, all of Vicksburg; four brothers, Eddie Williams, James Williams, Alfred Williams and Dillard Williams, all of Vicksburg; four sisters, Rosa Turner, Estella Brooks and Vera Guidry, all of Vicksburg, and Ellen Williams of Homer, La.; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Tommie M. Hankins

OAK GROVE Tommie M. Hankins died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at West Carroll Care Center in Oak Grove. She was 76.

Mrs. Hankins was a resident of Oak Grove.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Duncan Samuel and Ernie Manar; and a daughter, Sheri Hankins.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Hankins of Oak Grove; two sons, Charlie Hankins Jr. of Shreveport and Mark Hankins of Maebin, N.C.; a daughter, Linda Luttrell of West Monroe; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove with Drs. James Parker and Jeff Jinks officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Nick Hamilton, French Jones, Doug McIntosh, Lynn Hebert, Jimmy Melton and John Mercer.

Hattie Nesmith Howard

LOGANVILLE, Ga. Hattie Nesmith Howard died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Southern Plantation Retirement Center in Loganville, Ga. She was 85.

Born in Claiborne County to Ora Foster and Thomas Rea Nesmith, Mrs. Howard was reared in Vicksburg. She moved to Jackson in 1959, where she worked for the U.S. Forest Service. In 1974 she moved to Stone Mountain, Ga., and continued her civil service career until her retirement in 1981. She had been a resident of Loganville for a year.

She was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church in Loganville and was a member and past regent of the Daughters of American Revolution and a member of the First Families of Mississippi.

Survivors include four sons, Floyd Ray Bufkin Jr. of Ault, Colo., Hugh Thomas Bufkin of Alpharetta, Ga., David Louis Bufkin of Manassas, Va., and William Henry McKenzie Jr. of Port Orange, Fla.; two daughters, Rosemary Taylor of Madison and Madolyn McKenzie Cole of Loganville; a sister, Rosemary Brock of Lebanon, Miss.; a brother, Benjamin Rae Nesmith of California; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at Salem Baptist Church in Learned. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery under the direction of Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Arthur James Jones

Arthur James “Sergeant” Jones died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 64.

Mr. Jones was retired from the U.S. Army. He was a former mechanic at Anderson-Tully.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lee Jones, and a brother, Curtis Jones.

Survivors include his father, Cornelius Jones of Vicksburg; four sons, Michael Jones and Marvin Jones, both of Vicksburg, Shelby Wright of Aurora, Ill., and Edward Jones of McKinley, Texas; three daughters, Diane Smith, Kimberly Jones Ross and Audrey Jones Jackson, all of Vicksburg; three brothers, Cornelius Jones Jr. and David Jones, both of Aurora, and Donnie Jones of Lakeside, Calif.; two sisters, Rosetta Mitchell of Aurora and Beatrice Totten of Justice, Ill.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Earnestine “Baby Cake” Wright.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Howard Prisock

PORT GIBSON Howard “Man” Prisock died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was 70.

A native of Port Gibson, Mr. Prisock was retired from Archer Daniel Midland Co. and Lum’s Men’s Store in Port Gibson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney Elliot Prisock and Carrie Brown Prisock; and a sister, Justine Prisock Emanuel.

Survivors include his cousins, Peggie Marx and Allen Brown, both of Port Gibson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Wintergreen Cemetery with the Rev. David Harrison officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Friday until the service at the cemetery.
