Alton Charles Lee

Alton Charles Lee died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. He was 62.

A resident of Warren County, Mr. Lee was a graduate of Culkin High School and was a Navy veteran. He had served with the police department for seven years and was a sergeant. For 21 years he worked for the Vicksburg Fire Department, where he was an E.M.T. and lieutenant. He was a member of Paxton Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Marie Lee, and his father, Bree Lee Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Ann L. Lee of Vicksburg; a son, Kelly Lee of Liberty Lake, Wash.; a daughter, Angie Griffing of Vicksburg; his mother, Ora Lee of Vicksburg; one brother, Bree Lee Jr. of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. James Buie, pastor of Lone Pine Baptist Church in Canton, officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Sunday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Glen Jones, Ray Dingler, Doug Hearn, David McClurg, Mike Gettinger, Johnny Puckett, Scott Hearn and Bill Field Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Henry, Linden Hill, Mike Osborne, Leon Henry, David McLeod, Ben Horton, Eddie Henry, Pete Stubbs, Don Whittenberg, Junior Tew, Don Miller and active and retired Vicksburg firefighters.

Elliott Scott

Elliott “L” Scott died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 88.

Mr. Scott was born in Port Gibson and later moved to Vicksburg. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Geneva Scott; four brothers, James Scott, David Scott, John Scott and James Perry Scott; two sisters, Anna Johnson and Annie Mae Johnson; his wife, Ethel Lee Buck Scott; and his son, Joe Lee Scott.

He is survived by three sons, Ellis Scott and James Bill Scott, both of Vicksburg, and Nathaniel Scott of Fisk, Mo.; four daughters, Gloria Jean Scott and Betty Scott, both of Vicksburg; Hazel Scott of Richmond, Calif.; and Ethel Mae Scott of Lorman; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Will Moffett, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Virginia A. Tonore

BATON ROUGE, La. Virginia A. Tonore died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at her home. She was 87.

Born in Greenville, Mrs. Tonore had lived in Tallulah before moving to Baton Rouge, La. five years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Louis Tonore Sr.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Tonore of Baton Rouge; five sons, Gerald Tonore of Monroe, Louis Tonore of Baton Rouge, Bobby Tonore and Steve Tonore, both of Clinton and Greg Tonore of Lafayette, La.; two sisters, Gloria Kelly and Alice Duncan; three brothers, Paul Abide, Mitchell Abide and George Abide; and 12 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Tallulah. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Her grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
