Gertrude Edna Colquette

OAK GROVE Gertrude Edna Colquette died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. She was 89.

Mrs. Colquette was a resident of Oak Grove and a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Green Floyd Colquette; a son, Newell Colquette; and her parents, Oscar Dalton and Maude Estelle Price.

Survivors include three sons, Karon Colquette of Oak Grove, Gerald Colquette of Monroe and Coburn Colquette of Terrell, Texas; two daughters, Mavis Day of West Monroe and Floace Gore of Bentonville, Ark.; a brother, Marvis Price of Bossier City, La.; a sister, Elsie Gregory of St. Joseph; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. James Kitchens officiating. Burial will follow at Red Wing Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mattie L. Gaines

LORMAN Mattie L. Gaines died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital. She was 75.

A resident of Lorman, Mrs. Gaines was a member of Laurel Hill M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Monroe and Pinkie Perkins-Monroe; and her husband, Gloster Williams.

Survivors include three stepdaughters, Mosie Lee Jones and Emma Scott, both of Omaha, Neb., and Ruby Lee Gaines of Vicksburg; a brother, Charles Monroe of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Panola Beaver of St. Louis; nieces, nephews and cousins; and other relatives and friends, including Gloster and Hilda Williams of Lorman.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Hill M.B. Church with the Rev. Eddie Hargrove officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 tonight at the funeral home and from noon Wednesday until the service at the church.

Alice M. Harris

Alice M. Harris died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 98.

Mrs. Harris was a member of Morning Star Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Harris; two brothers, Mose Braxton and George Braxton; and a sister, Carrie Braxton Green.

She is survived by two nieces, Ora Lee Hooper and her caregiver, Maxine Cox Wilson; other relatives, including Helen O’Neal, Camille Cox , Lucille Harris and Cheney Peterson; and members of the Hooper, Bell, Cox, Kennedy, Harris, Braxton and Williams families, all of Vicksburg.

Nancy Bell Johnson Mack

EDWARDS Nancy Bell Johnson Mack died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 71.

Mrs. Mack was a resident of Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Mack Sr.

She is survived by six sons, Willie Joe Johnson, Ricky Johnson and Quintin Webster, all of Edwards, Robert Johnson of Jackson, Delmar Johnson of West Memphis, Ark., and Bernard Webster of Kansas City, Kan.; four daughters, Peggy Johnson and Patricia Webster, both of Edwards, Jeanette Webster of Bolton and Mary Ann Berry of Florence; a sister, Edna Hill Waters of Victor Valley, Calif.; two brothers, R.L. Morgan of Vicksburg and Clifton Mack of Biloxi; 67 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; stepchildren; and friends and other relatives, including Doris Bland of Utica.

Samuel C. McGriggs

UTICA Samuel C. McGriggs died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at his home in Utica. He was 50.

Mr. McGriggs was a member of Mount Olive M.B. Church in Utica. He had worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mat Sinking Unit and Ingalls Shipbuilders in Pascagoula.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles McGriggs.

He is survived by his parents, Sam McGriggs Jr. and Bernice McGriggs, both of Utica; four brothers, Tony McGriggs of Chicago and Frank McGriggs, Calvin McGriggs and Joseph McGriggs, all of Utica; two sisters, Mintha Neal of Utica and Flora McGriggs Robinson of Chicago; and aunts, uncles and other relatives.
