Adrian Cohron

UTICA Adrian Cohron died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center. He was 86.

Born in Excel, Ala., Mr. Cohron had lived in Utica most of his life. He was a retired cattleman and furniture and appliance dealer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leola Hines Cohron; a daughter, Jacqueline Cohron; and a son, Herbert Cohron Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Roxie Bonita Cohron of Redondo Beach, Calif.; a brother, Rudolph Cohron of Utica; four sisters, Annie Laurie Melton of Excel and Marie Van Pelt, Doris McMillian and Barbara Herrington, all of Huntsville, Ala.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Utica Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Utica Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Homer E. Neal

Homer E. Neal died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at his home. He was 92.

Born in Dover, Ark., Mr. Neal had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1927. He had been employed at R.G. LeTourneau for many years before retiring as a tool and die maker. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, Homer Durelle Neal.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Lishman Neal of Vicksburg; two sisters, Agnes Cummings of Kansas City, Mo., and Laura Brunetti of Collinsville; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Frank May, David Neal Jr., Bart Neal, Elma N. Malone, Joe Battalio, Bobby Deitz, Dan Tipton and Elton Jerls.

Honorary pallbearers will be Benny May, Dwayne Cotton, Joe O’Quin, Willie Warnock, Larry Mize, Whitney Doiron, Nancy Malone, Marie Hope, Warren Doiron and the staff of Patient’s Choice Hospice.

Caleb E. Carson Shelton

Services for Caleb E. Carson Shelton will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Caleb died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson. He was 14.

He was a resident of Vicksburg and a seventh-grade student at Vicksburg Junior High School.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Abie Lee and Savannah Carson; his paternal grandfather, Johnson Shelton; a sister, Pandelia Jones; and his stepgrandmother, Lillie Mae Thomas.

Survivors include his parents, James Phillip Shelton Sr. and John and Myra Carson Thomas, all of Vicksburg; four brothers, James Shelton Jr. of Indiana and Jason Shelton, Phillip Carson Shelton and Jebroski Shelton, all of Vicksburg; 10 sisters, Latoya Calvin, Dionne Carson, Kiawanna Shelton, Kimberly Shelton, Takeia Carson, Kyra Carson, Kayla Shelton, Jennifer Shelton, Erica Shelton and Laquan Cox, all of Vicksburg; his paternal grandparents, James and Maria Scott of Vicksburg; his stepgrandfather, D.C. Thomas of Carlisle; seven uncles; 11 aunts; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Isiah William Sims Jr.

Services for Isiah William “Shorty” Sims Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Rock of Ages Church with Dr. Michael Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mr. Sims died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at his home. He was 79.

A Vicksburg resident, Mr. Sims was a retired truck driver with ABF Truck Line and was an Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a member of New Rock of Ages M.B. Church, Sunshine Lodge No. 99 AF&AM, American Legion Tyner-Ford Post 213 and the Elks Lodge.

He was preceded in death by a son, William L. Sims; a daughter, Barbara J. Collins; his parents, Isiah W. Sims Sr. and Rosie Brickell Sims; two brothers, Theodore Sims and Charles Sims; and two sisters, Blanche Hill and Zenobia Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Christine L. Sims of Vicksburg; a daughter, Rose S. Gooden of Jackson; two brothers, Frank Sims of Aurora, Ill., and Ernest Sims of Chicago; a sister, Lillie Harris of Oakland, Calif.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and others, including the Sims, Middleton, Miller, Bass, Johnson and Hebron families.

James Sylvan Starnes

MONROE James Sylvan “Jimmy” Starnes died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at his home in Monroe. He was 45.

Mr. Starnes owned Village Hair of Monroe.

He is survived by his wife, Bambi Freeman Starnes of Monroe; two daughters, Ellie Starnes and Emma Starnes; one son, Sylvan Starnes; his parents, Roy and Celia Starnes of Port Gibson; and three sisters, Cindy Cannon, Charlotte Starnes and Edie Dees.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today at Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church with the Revs. Weldon Bares, Marcelle Crow and Timmy Starnes officiating.

Memorials may be made to ALS Foundation, Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church or Ouachita Christian School.
