CARRIERE Martha West Madden died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington, La. She was 58.

A native of Vicksburg, Mrs. Madden had lived in Alaska before moving to Carriere. She was an administrative officer for the Department of the Interior.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mattie Fields and William Pickney West.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Madden of Carriere; a son, Jimmy Madden of Terrytown, La.; a daughter, Lisa Madden Cappel of Slidell, La.; a sister, Betty Jean VanNorman of Vicksburg; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Honaker Funeral Home in Slidell with the Rev. William E. Thiele of Aldersgate Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Corrie Lee Oliver

Visitation for Corrie Lee Oliver will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Riles Funeral Home. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at White Oak Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Ruby, S.C.

Mrs. Oliver died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at Covenant Health Care and Rehab of Vicksburg. She was 88.

Born near Blenheim, S.C., Mrs. Oliver was the daughter of the late John and Maggie Lee Caulder Adams. She graduated in 1934 from the Marlboro County Public Schools.

With her husband, she owned Oliver Office Equipment Co. for 25 years in Union City, Tenn. She retired in 1982. She lived in Memphis for a number of years and moved to Vicksburg in 2000.

Mrs. Oliver was a former member of the Garden Club of St. Stephen, S.C., and the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Union City, serving as corresponding secretary. For 30 years, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Union City, where she was involved in Sunday school.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Harden.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Jack Norvelle Oliver of Vicksburg, and a son, James Michael Oliver of Vicksburg.

Pallbearers will be Joe Bonelli, Mike Kavanaugh, David Schaeffer, Harvey Huffstatler, Randy Wilson and Wayne Grey.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Vicksburg Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Hazel Thomas

LOS ANGELES Services for Hazel Thomas will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Inglewood, Calif., under the direction of McCormick Mortuary.

Miss Thomas died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, in Los Angeles. She was 82.

She was born in Vicksburg to the late William and Madelyn Thomas. She owned and operated Pat’s Drive-In during the 1960s. She was a resident of Los Angeles.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Miles and Carolyn Thomas, both of Los Angeles; two sisters, Mary Thomas of Detroit, Mich., and Delores Thomas Bullock of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

C.W. Thompson

C.W. Thompson died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, in Vicksburg. He was 51.

Mr. Thompson was a security guard.
