Billy Mack Beard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Billy Mack Beard died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at his home in Jacksonville, Fla. He was 49.

Mr. Beard was born in Oak Grove.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Pittman Beard.

Survivors include his wife, LaReda Beard of Sulphur Springs, Texas; a son, Brandon Beard of Jacksonville; a daughter, Krystal Beard of Sulphur Springs; his mother, Mary Beard of Oak Grove; three brothers, Joe Beard of Portland, Ark., Johnny Beard of Houston, Texas, and Steve Beard of Oak Grove; two sisters, Kathy Sivils of Wilmont, Ark., and Cindy DeShazo of Jacksonville; a granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Eudora, Ark., with the Rev. James Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove.

Visitation will be until 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Katherine Ann Burton

SHREVEPORT Katherine Ann Burton died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, in Shreveport. She was 53.

A Vicksburg native, Mrs. Burton was a former bookkeeper and secretary for Southside Coach and Trailer Sales. She was also a published author of romance novels and a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry L. Burton; one son, Jeffery L. Burton; one daughter, Amy Adkinson; her parents, C.C. and Norene Sanders; a brother, Randy Sanders; and one grandson, Jimmy Adkinson.

Services were at 10 a.m. Sept. 13 at Centuries Funeral Home in Shreveport with her uncle, the Rev. James Kitchens, officiating. Burial followed at Centuries Memorial Park.

Rachel Sanders Clark

Rachel Sanders Clark died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004. She was 36.

Ms. Clark was born in Hollandale and had lived most of her life in Vicksburg. She graduated from Warren Central High School and was retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District. She was a member of Wilderness Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joe L. and Alice Pearl Barrentine and John D. Scott.

She is survived by her parents, John L. and Diane Mee Barrentine; a son, Charles Dillon Sanders of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Glenda Luke of Vicksburg; two brothers, John Wesley Barrentine and Daniel Wade Barrentine, both of Vicksburg; two sisters, Tammy Lynn Cassidy and Karen Lenette Brown, both of Vicksburg; her grandmother, Marjorie Scott of Vicksburg; and one grandchild, Katlin Luke.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Revs. Frankie Terry and Russ Granberry officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Shingler, Mark Brown, Johnny Sanders, Bert Boleware, David Brown and Frankie Terry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Webb, Brian Luke, Chuck Barfield and Drs. Albert Chiemprabha and Stephen Sudderth.

Daniel Clay Good Sr.

COVINGTON, La. Daniel Clay Good Sr. died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, La. He was 54.

A resident of Port Gibson, Mr. Good was employed in Covington.

He is survived by three sons, Terry Good of Columbus Air Force Base, Daniel C. Good Jr. of Pascagoula and Michael Good of Moss Point; two brothers, Joe Good Jr. of Alexandria, La., and Howard Good of Los Angeles; two sisters, Catherine Goodmon of Russum and Cynthia Good of Utica; six grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including Hattie Good of Moss Point.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Port Gibson with the Rev. James Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at McCay Cemetery in Russum.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 today at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Willie Odom Jr.

HARTFORD, Conn. Willie “Mane” Odom Jr. died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, in Connecticut. He was 69.

Born in Red Lick, Mr. Odom was a resident of Hartford, Conn. He had worked for Herb Holden Trucking Company for 22 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Odom Sr.; his mother, Janie Odom; and an aunt who reared him, Sadie James.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Odom of Vicksburg and Edward Lee Odom of Hartford; two daughters, Geraldine “Cookie” Harris of Vicksburg and Trina Eddington of Springfield, Mass.; two brothers, Sonny Odom and James Odom, both of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Betsy Odom and Bertha Cooper, both of Kansas City; three uncles; two aunts; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends, including Cora Adams of Georgia and Mary L. James and Frances Davis, both of Port Gibson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Christian Church in Red Lick with Walter Chambers officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Harris Jr., Shcobey Harris, Julius Morrow, Roosevelt Qualls, Terrance Smith and Eric Tolliver.

Bertha Lee Russell

Bertha Lee Russell died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at her home. She was 65.

Mrs. Russell was a resident of Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Reese; her mother, Lillie Lee Newland; and a sister, Joan Adams.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra Blackmore of Vicksburg; a son, Bobby Lee Blackmore of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
