Donald Alfred Cameron

TINTON FALLS, N.J. Donald Alfred Cameron died today, Oct. 5, 2004, at his home in Tinton Falls, N.J. He was 61.

A Vicksburg native, Mr. Cameron graduated from Rosa A. Temple High School and Alcorn State University. He was a trustee at Calvary Baptist Church in Tinton Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Major and Ruby Cameron, and his grandparents, Judge and Elmonia Cameron and Littleton and Indiana Henry.

Survivors include his wife, Sonja Ratcliff Cameron of Tinton Falls; two sons, Donald Cameron Jr. and Jason Cameron, both of Tinton Falls; three daughters, Jodie Richard of Eatontown, N.J., Sherrie Wheeler of Bayville, N.J., and Donna Wells of Columbus, Ga.; three brothers, Major Cameron Jr. and Robert Cameron, both of Washington, D.C., and Cecil Cameron of Vicksburg; three sisters, Shirley Henry and Cecilia Cole, both of Vicksburg, and Delores Wells of Culver City, Calif.; two granddaughters; and other relatives, including members of the Hall and Davis families.

Childs Funeral Home in Tinton Falls has charge of arrangements.

John H. Coffing

INDIANTOWN, Fla. John H. Coffing died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at his home in Indiantown, Fla. He was 80.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Coffing was a Navy veteran. He retired as a union electrician and was a member of the IBEW Local 728.

He is survived by his wife, Elva Coffing of Indiantown; a daughter, Toni Brown of Indiantown; two sons, James Coffing Sr. of Indiantown and John Coffing Jr. of Tacoma, Wash.; three sisters, Alice Coffing of Vicksburg, Daisy Walling of San Antonio, Texas, and Peggy Cook of North Richard Hills, Texas; a brother, Rodgers Coffing of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

All County Funeral Home and Crematory in Stuart, Fla., has charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bettye Pierson Groome

BRANDON Bettye Pierson Groome, formerly of Vicksburg, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. She was 73.

A resident of Brandon, Mrs. Groome was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was a bronze life master member of the Jackson Bridge Association, a member of the Mississippi Quilters Association, where she served as secretary, and was past president of the Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas P. Groome Jr.

Survivors include a son, Thomas P. Groome III of Spartanburg, S.C.; two daughters, Virginia G. Breon of Tygh Valley, Ore., and Susan Fortenberry of Falls Church, Va.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Fayette Cemetery under the direction of Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. Wednesday until the service at the church.

Eddie Jones

ROLLING FORK Eddie “Slim” Jones died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at The Burn Center at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. He was 47.

A resident of Rolling Fork, Mr. Jones had been a city employee for 23 years.

He is survived by his parents, Willie B. Hanes of Florida and Willie Mae Jones of Greenville; a brother, Leroy Jones of Greenville; a sister, Lilly Williams of Greenville; and others, including Sallie Burden of Rolling Fork.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Green Chapel M.B. Church with Carlton Earl officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Gertrude Kolb

A Mass of the Resurrection for Gertrude Kolb will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. P.J. Curley, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Miss Kolb died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Mountain Trace Nursing Center in Sylva, N.C. She was 88.

She lived in Vicksburg most of her life and had been a resident of Sylva for the past seven years. She was the daughter of the late Karl and Therese Kolb.

A graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy, she was a member of the St. Francis-St. Aloysius Alumni Association. She was a communicant of St. Paul Catholic Church and a member of the Blessed Virgin Sodality.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Charles Rudolph Kolb.

Survivors include a sister, Marguerite Kolb Nicholas of Sylva; two brothers, John Kolb of Vicksburg and Brother Alfred Kolb of Bay St. Louis; and nieces and nephews.

Eula Artence Taylor

CARY Eula Artence Taylor died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Mississippi Care Center in Greenville. She was 81.

Mrs. Taylor was a native of Louisville and spent most her life in Cary. She was employed at Moore Planting Co. for a number of years. She was a member of the Cary Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, John Taylor of Greenville and Ronnie Taylor of Leland; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cary Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnnie Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Visitation will be from noon Wednesday until the service at the church.
