JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Jesse Johnson Jr. died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at Baptist Beaches Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. He was 67.

Born and reared in Vicksburg, Mr. Johnson retired from the Navy as a petty officer, first class, after 25 years of service. He graduated from Bowman High School and was a member of Mount Elem M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Johnson Sr. and Mary Warren Johnson; a brother, Willie “Mickey” Johnson; and a sister, Lois Juanita Lee.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene Moore Johnson of Jacksonville; four sons, Jesse Johnson III of Germany, Jeffrey Johnson of Little Rock, Ark., and Victor Johnson and Timothy Johnson, both of Jacksonville; two daughters, Jacqueline Johnson of Jacksonville and Sgt. Sharon Johnson of Navarre, Fla.; five sisters, Myrtle Chong of Vicksburg, Gayle Johnson of Jackson, Esther Taylor of San Diego, Calif., Brenda Johnson of Saugua, Calif., and Doris Jacobs of Vacherie, La.; one brother, Darrell Wayne Johnson of Vicksburg; 11 grandchildren; and friends and other relatives, including William Warren of Vicksburg.

Services with full military honors were Oct. 1 at Beaches Memorial Garden of Honor.

Paul Lucas Marsicano

FORT WORTH, Texas Paul Lucas Marsicano died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, in Arlington, Texas. He was 67.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Marsicano was a resident of Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from St. Aloysius High School and received a degree in business administration from Mississippi State University. He worked for the Mississippi Highway Department before beginning a 37-year career with the Corps of Engineers. After working at Waterways Experiment Station for a number of years, Mr. Marsicano worked on assignments in Italy, Saudi Arabia, Memphis and Fort Worth.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Marsicano Jr.; and his parents, Joseph and Katherine Marsicano.

Survivors include a daughter, Paige Bublik of Fort Worth; a son, Shane Marsicano of Grand Prairie, Texas; a brother, Johnny Marsicano of St. Paul, Minn.; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Mary Edwards and Lisa Larr McCollum, both of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Samuel McCoy Sr.

Services for Samuel McCoy Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with Linda Sweezer officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. McCoy died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 84.

A Vicksburg resident, he was a retired custodian for the Vicksburg Warren School District. He was a World War II veteran of the Army and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora D. Douglas McCoy; his parents, Elijah “Bud” and Evalina Williams McCoy; and a sister, Rosie McCoy Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanetta Johnson McCoy of Vicksburg; seven sons, Lee Arthur McCoy and Clyde McCoy, both of Vicksburg, William “Bill” McCoy of Natchez, Master Sgt. Calvin McCoy of Camp Shelby, James Riley Douglas and Larry McCoy, both of Chicago, and C.D. McCoy of Dayton, Ohio; four daughters, Gloria M. Ward, Cleothal McCoy and Cassandra McCoy, all of Vicksburg, and Nicole McCoy of Tallulah; two brothers, L.V. McCoy and Freddie Petty McCoy, both of Chicago; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Beulah Redmond

Beulah Redmond died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 63.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Redmond was a member of First Springhill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie Washington and Willye B. Mason; and a sister, Geneva Williams.

Survivors include her husband, Melvin E. Redmond Sr. of Vicksburg; three daughters, Sadie B. Wilson of San Leandro, Calif., Elizabeth Y. Redmond of Vicksburg and Cassandra R. Holmes of Hutto, Texas; a son, Melvin E. Redmond Jr. of Slidell, La.; a brother, Forrest B. McCoy of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, E. Hill Deloney of Flint, Mich.; three grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Friday, with family hour from 5 until 6, at the funeral home.

Joseph Sylvester Jr.

REDWOOD Services for Joseph “Little Joe” Sylvester Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Travelers M.B. Church with the Rev. Terry Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mr. Sylvester died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 53.

A resident of Redwood, he was a member of Shady Grove M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Rosie Middleton Sylvester; three sisters, Rosetta McClain, Delta Fisher and Josie Sylvester; and his paternal grandparents, Frances and Add Sylvester.

Survivors include his wife, Annie L. Jones Sylvester of Vicksburg; two stepsons, Monroe Washington III and Luther C. Washington, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Sharron S. Washington and Shannon K. Sylvester, both of Redwood; five brothers, Add Sylvester of Flint, Mich., Paul Sylvester of Shreveport, La., Jessie Sylvester and Isaac Sylvester, both of Redwood, and James Sylvester of Vicksburg; six sisters, Dorothy Ford of San Francisco, Calif., Frances Taylor of Houston, Texas, and Christine DeFrance of Redwood, Adell Lindsey, Deloras DeFrance and Marilyn Williams, all of Vicksburg; and three grandchildren.

LaShawndra Nicole White

Services for LaShawndra Nicole White will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bingham Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. James Archer officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Friday, with family hour from 6 until 7, at the funeral home.

Miss White died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 25.

Born in Vicksburg, she was a 1998 graduate of Warren Central High School. She was a member of Solid Rock and was employed at MIDD-West.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Tilisha Levette White.

Survivors include a son, Nicholas Le’Shaun Early of Vicksburg; her fianc, Robert Lee Early of Vicksburg; her mother, Johnie White of Vicksburg; her stepfather, Joseph Hall of Vicksburg; a sister, Killisha White of Vicksburg; a brother, Johnny L. Clark Jr. of Vicksburg; her grandmother, Annie B. White of Vicksburg; and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
