Waldon Ray Bass

Services for Waldon Ray Bass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rick McAllister officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 this evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Bass died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004, in Cordell, Okla. He was 42.

He was a native of Oak Grove and had lived in Knoxville, Tenn., for 12 years and in Vicksburg for 27 years. After graduating from Warren Central High School in 1979, Mr. Bass worked at LeTourneau as an electrician and at Tyson Food Company in maintenance. He also worked for a heating and cooling company in San Francisco, Lay’s Packing Co., in Knoxville and Neighbor Oil Co., in Elk City. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Mr. Bass is survived by his wife, Karen M. Bass of Knoxville; three daughters, Alison Rae Lee, Taylor Sorah and Kendall Bass, all of Knoxville; his parents, Walter and Katie Montgomery, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Chris Montgomery of Austin, Texas, and Stephen Montgomery of Vicksburg; and one granddaughter, Lily Sorah of Knoxville.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Deere, Johnny Beard, Jason Chapin, Robby Beard, Joe Chapin, Mike Thompson, Everett Deere and Dewayne Nevels.

Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Lanier, Curtis Bridges, Joseph W. Bass, Bullet Head, Mark Bridges, Arthur Bridges, Jamie Bridges, Carl Bridges and Rowdy Bridges.

Leona F. Beesley

Leona F. Beesley died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 85.

Mrs. Beesley was a native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was a member of Bowmar Baptist Church and its Fidelis Sunday school class and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, John Austin Boone, J.W. Boone, Wilfred Boone, Vinkley Boone, Vernon Boone and Dan Boone, and two sisters, Louise Mullen and Margie Foley.

She is survived by two daughters, Darlene Hall of Panama City, Fla., and Yvonne “Bonnie” Bryant of Vicksburg; four sons, Grady Bryant of Hacienda Heights, Calif, Delton Moore of Jackson, Tom Purser III of Kiln and Jerry Purser of Slidell, La.; eight grandchildren, a great-grandson and two sisters, Margaret Pagan and Annie Laura Hunter, both of Vicksburg.

Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Gloria “Glo” Thames Bottom

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. Gloria Thames Bottom died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at Rose Garden Adult Foster Home in Lake Oswego, Ore. She was 93.

Mrs. Bottom was born in Vicksburg, where she lived at Anchor to Windward. She was a charter member of the Vicksburg Theatre Guild and was an original “can-can cutie” in the melodrama “Gold in the Hills.” She was cast in the lead in “Holiday,” the first three-act play performed by the theater group. She was an officer in the Vicksburg Book Club and the author of a booklet, “A Thankful and Joyful Heart,” which was published by the Episcopal Church nationwide. Mrs. Bottom was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Deloach Thames Sr. and Nell Hobart Thames; her husband, Rear Adm. John Thomas Bottom Jr.; two sisters, Mrs. Carlton R. Todd and Mrs. Kenneth A. Wright; and a brother, Chancellor James DeLoach Thames Jr.

She is survived by a son, John T. Bottom III and a granddaughter, Sophie Rose Bottom, both of Lake Oswego.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Episcopal Church in Lake Oswego.

Memorial services in Vicksburg will be announced by Riles Funeral Home.

Faye O. Ellison

Services for Faye O. Ellison will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Dr. John G. McCall, pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church, officiating.

Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Ellison died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Promise Specialty Hospital. She was 75.

Born in Vicksburg, Mrs. Ellison attended St. Francis Xavier Academy and was a graduate of Culkin Academy. She was an art teacher for years and was a retired secretary at Waterways Experiment Station. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Her father, Robert Marion Oliver, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Dave A. Ellison Jr. of Vicksburg; a daughter, Shirley Faye Tracey of Lake Elsinor, Calif.; a son, Dave A. Ellison III of Vicksburg; her mother, Willie E. Oliver of Vicksburg; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Rob Ellison, Jeff Ellison, Johnny Puckett, Curtis Buford, Cody McKellar and Jim Hess.

Peter James Moore

Peter James Moore died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 52.

Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Laura S. Moore; three sons, Anthony James Moore of Yreka, Cal., Shane Lee Moore of Hauser, Ore., and James K. Moore of Utica; two daughters, Robin Belinda Moore and Tabitha Lea Moore, both of Vicksburg; one brother, David A. Moore; one sister, Leila Marie Moore of Cods Bay, Ore.; and 11 grandchildren.
