Gerald Russell

OAK GROVE Gerald Russell died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. He was 63.
Mr. Russell was an Oak Grove native.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jewell Russell.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Russell of Oak Grove; two sons, Jeffery Russell of Oak Grove and Kevin Russell of Farmerville, La.; one daughter, Beth Russell Simmons of Oak Grove; a sister, Kathleen Robertson of Columbia, La.; five grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hill Baptist Church in Oak Grove with the Rev. Leslie Yates officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Billy Ray Costello, Eddie Russell, Roy Johnson, J.D. Mays, Jerry Bolding, James Bruce, Ronald Lee Pippen and Jimmy Young.
Ron Sherman
BYRAM Ron Sherman died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was 54.
A native of Seattle, Wash., Mr. Sherman lived in Jackson for a number of years and had been a Byram resident for the past year. He was a veteran of the Navy and had worked as an operating room technician for 13 years at the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
A diver, he was a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Karla Cato Sherman of Byram, formerly of Vicksburg; two sons, Cameron Sherman of Byram and Brian Sherman of Oak Harbor, Wash.; one daughter, Kristi Wlodarchak of Paulsbo, Wash.; his parents, Robert and Carol Sherman of Richland, Wash.; a brother, Mark Sherman of Tenino, Wash.; two sisters, Pam Roney of Richland, Wash., and Janet Napier of Granite Falls, Wash.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Chancellor Funeral Home of Byram. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Cora Mae Sims Torrey
LYNWOOD, Calif. Cora Mae Sims Torrey died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Marlinda Convalescent Home in Lynwood, Calif. She was 71.
A resident of Lynwood, Mrs. Torrey was a retired federal employee and a member of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Mae Sims; two brothers, Albert Sims and Eddie Lee Sims; and four sisters, Bernice Sims, Della Sims, Lula Sims and Delois Sims.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothene Willis of Utica; five sons, Alton Sims of Vicksburg and Stanley Torrey, Anthony Burford, Charles Brown and Robert Brown, all of Los Angeles; a brother, Chester Sims of Utica; three sisters, Nettie Alexander and Georgia Sims, both of Los Angeles, and Willie Ruth Bledsoe of Memphis; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including the Burks, Flaggs, Fields and Robinson families.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Simpson’s Family Mortuary in Inglewood, Calif.
