Now’s the time to stop

Vicksburg police officers Samuel Carter, below, and Bobby Jones try to stop a truck as it skids through the new four-way stop sign at Cherry and Crawford streets Monday morning. For two years, the intersection had no stop light or sign, but the new signs were added for safety, officials said. “We’ve had problems with speeding motorists, so it allows pedestrians to safely cross Cherry and Crawford streets,” Jones said. Law enforcement officials said they passed out only warnings Monday, but were to begin issuing citations today. (Brian LodenThe Vicksburg Post)
