Andrew Issac Byrd

PORT GIBSON Andrew Issac Byrd died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, as the result of an accident at V&B International in Port Gibson. He was 46.

Mr. Byrd was a native of Claiborne County. He was an operator at V&B International and was a member of Mount Burner M.B. Church in Pattison.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie Mae Byrd Shorter, and a stepson, Kenyatta Heath.

He is survived by his wife, Juette Heath Byrd of Port Gibson; one son, Antwan Jones of Port Gibson; one stepson, Marlon Heath of Port Gibson; a stepdaughter, Odessa Heath of Port Gibson; his father and stepmother, Willie and Jannie Shorter of Port Gibson; 10 brothers, Leon Byrd, Billy Ray Byrd, Ronnie Byrd, Douglas Byrd, Otis Byrd, Amos Byrd and Devel Lamont Byrd, all of Port Gibson, Willie Byrd Jr. and Stenley Byrd, both of New York, and Devel Byrd of Virginia; 13 sisters, Florene Walker, Reather Ann Byrd, Brenda Byrd, Geraldine Byrd, Tammy Byrd, Breondrea Byrd, Shelia Byrd, Tracy Byrd, Joychat Byrd, Keona Byrd and Tomeka Byrd, all of Port Gibson, Judy Byrd and Audrey Byrd, both of New York; one grandson; three stepgrandchildren; and aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Burner M.B. Church with the Rev. Ray Coleman Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Thompson Memorial Garden Cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Ellis Elbert Coles

HUMBLE, Texas Ellis Elbert Coles died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at Vitas at the Hamptons Hospice in Houston, Texas. He was 71.

Mr. Coles was born in Vicksburg to the late Ellis Elbert and Montie Neff Coles. He was a resident of Humble, Texas, and was a former truck driver and construction worker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, W.S. Coles; and a sister, Beverly Coles Vance.

Survivors include five sisters, Jane Hanes and Lucille Ables, both of Vicksburg, Shirley Howell of Dunwoody, Ga., Ellen Cottrell of San Antonio, Texas, and Montie Love of Longview, Texas; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble has charge of arrangements.

Nora Mae Erves

Services for Nora Mae “Mama” Erves will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Travelers M.B. Church, 1701 Poplar St., with the Rev. Alfred Lassiter Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Erves died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 67.

A retired cook, she was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Erves was preceded in death by her father, John “Roebuck” Kelly.

She is survived by four sons, John Henry Kelly of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Caleb “Cato” Erves, Lee Anthony Erves and Dennis Ray Erves, all of Vicksburg; three daughters, Shirley Erves of Nairobi, Kenya, Mary Meeks and Jessica Erves of Vicksburg; her mother, Elnora Brown Kelly of Vicksburg; three brothers, Walter Kelly and Caleb “C.B.” Kelly, both of Vicksburg, and James Kelly of Chicago; one sister, Johnnie Mae Kelly of Chicago; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including members of the Harris, Wiggins, Ellis and Givens families of Vicksburg.

Patrick Street McCaffrey

Patrick Street McCaffrey died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 79.

Mr. McCaffrey was born in Vicksburg to the late Thomas Patrick and Pinkey Priscilla Reynolds McCaffrey. He attended St. Aloysius and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Waterways Experiment Station after 38 years of service.

He was a communicant of St. Michael Catholic Church, where he served on the building committee and was a member and musician in the choir.

Mr. McCaffrey was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee McCaffrey and Clyde McCaffrey, and four sisters, his twin Patricia McCaffrey, Willie Mae Buckel, Magdalen Hopkins and Eulanie Baker.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Fowler McCaffrey of Vicksburg; a daughter, Teresa M. Marshall of Vicksburg; two sons, Patrick S. McCaffrey Jr. and Timothy J. McCaffrey, both of Vicksburg; one sister, Nellie M. Hale of Vicksburg; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. P.J. Curley, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Riles Funeral Home with a Christian prayer service at 7 and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Michael Marshall, Kelly McCaffrey, Timothy Marshall, Alton McCaffrey, Greg McCaffrey, Darryl Hale, Birchett Hopkins and Mike Conn.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Conn and Randall Baker.

Gentle P. McGrew

PATTISON Gentle P. McGrew died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at his home in Pattison. He was 84.

Mr. McGrew was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie McGrew; his parents, Walter McGrew and Ida Walkins McGrew; two brothers, Johnny P. McGrew and Allen E. McGrew; and three sisters, Dora Russell, Annie Jefferies and Emily Beasley.

He is survived by five sons, Leroy McGrew and Irving McGrew, both of Chicago, Arthur McGrew of Milwaukee, Wis., Eddie McGrew of Pattison and Bobby McGrew of Gulfport; six daughters, Dorothy Hill and Sadie R. McGrew, both of Hermanville, Ethel McGrew and Peggy McGrew, both of Pattison, Lisa McGrew of Detroit and Niena Williams of Dolton, Ill.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives, including Renita Jackson of Hermanville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Whitehall Baptist Church in Pattison with the Rev. Ray Coleman officiating, assisted by the Rev. Leroy Dee. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 tonight at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Barbara E. Neal

PORT GIBSON Barbara E. Neal died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, in Madison. She was 34.

Miss Neal was a resident of Port Gibson.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Hermanville under the direction of Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home in Utica.
