James H. Ahrend

James H. Ahrend died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. He was 64.

Born in Copiah County, Mr. Ahrend had been a Vicksburg resident since 1961. He retired from BellSouth as a digital technician. He was a member of the First Church of Nazarene, where he served on the church board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Leona Ahrend, and two brothers, Shirley Ahrend and William “Hank” Ahrend.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma W. Ahrend of Vicksburg; two sons, Freddy Ahrend of Richland and Randy Ahrend of Jackson; two brothers, Ed Ahrend of Brookhaven and Tom Ahrend of Pearl; one sister, Louise Hearnsberger of Warren, Ark.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Church of Nazarene with the Rev. Kuhrman Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Roger Fillebaum, Basil Arthur, John Ashley, Charles Rule, Bill Bagley and Lennell Clanton.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or First Church of Nazarene.

Jane D. Cook

SUMRALL Jane D. Cook died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg. She was 82.

Formerly of Vicksburg and Utica, Mrs. Cook was a resident of Sumrall. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Sumrall, where she participated in the Women’s Missionary Union and ladies Bible study. She was a life member of the Wilmar Historical Society, the Hyland Order of the Eastern Star and the Better Living Homemakers Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryan Cook; her parents, Henry and Nellie Drier; and a granddaughter, Sybil Crimm.

Survivors include a son, Joe Cook of Vicksburg; a daughter, Carolyn Goldsborough of Amory; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Gerald Crimm Jr. and Kent Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James Pickle, R.C. Quarrels, Jim Chamblee, Bernard Cook, Lamar Cook and Lewis Sparkman.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Hyland Order of the Eastern Star and Hyland Masonic Lodge and the Revs. Gerald Crimm Jr. and Kent Campbell.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Sumrall.

Kevin Cox CLINTON Kevin Cox died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, in Edwards. He was 36.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Cox had been a resident of Clinton for the past 10 years. He was a 1985 graduate of Warren Central High School and attended Hinds Junior College, Mississippi State University and Belhaven College.

He had served as warehouse supervisor for Jitney Jungle Food Store in Jackson for 12 years and owned and operated Architect’s Choice General Contracting. He was a member of O’Rion’s Pines Hunting Club, the Magnolia Retriever Club, National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited and Utica Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Edwin and Bessie Louise Cox and Johnnie Benton “Jack” and Maggie Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Susie Cox of Clinton; a daughter, Katelyn Cox of Clinton; a son, Benton Cox of Clinton; his parents, Bill and Georgia Cox of Edwards; a sister, Renee Bryant of Clinton; a brother, Jacque Cox of Victor, N.Y.; and two nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fisher Funeral Home with Dr. John G. McCall officiating. Burial will follow at Edwards City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Clay Garcie, Ernie Hillard, Jim White, Dr. Shelby Brantley, Pat Neblett and Chip Hutchison.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Dunlap, Bobby Dedmon, Michael Lassiter, Jason Cox and Robert Neblett.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
