Jackson teams in local tournament

[12/2/04]Jackson powers Jim Hill and Provine will take aim at the Warren Central Classic in a two-day tournament starting today.

Provine’s girls (5-2), coming off their second loss of the season, will open the tournament against Vicksburg (5-4) at 4 p.m. The Lady Rams finished second in the Coca-Cola Classic to open the season, and defeated Warren Central in that tournament.

Defending Class 4A boys state champion Provine (6-2) will also face Vicksburg (6-3), at 5:30 p.m. Provine lost its last game to Forest Hill. The Rams won the Coca Cola Classic.

Warren Central’s girls (6-2) will face Jim Hill (4-4), a team that defeated Vicksburg earlier this season, at 7 p.m.

The Vikings (5-3) will also face Jim Hill (4-3) at 8:30. Hill, which is coached by former Vicksburg standout Fred Harris, defeated Vicksburg this season.

The girls championship is set for 7 p.m. Friday night and the boys title game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Admission is $5.

“The good thing about it is it’s good competition. You get two games back-to-back, which is the way you’ve got play it when you get into South Mississippi, you’ll have to play two games back-to-back on a Friday and Saturday,” Warren Central girls coach Donny Fuller said. “This kind of helps you prepare for that down the road.”
