Florine McGuffee Barland

MADISON Florine McGuffee Barland died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at The Nichols Center at Madison. She was 88.

Mrs. Barland was born in Utica to the late Wise and Eddie McGuffee. She attended Hinds Junior College in Raymond and had lived in Port Gibson and Carthage before moving to Madison.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Barland.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon “Cookie” Bufkin of Jackson; two sisters, Sue Newman of Madison and Katherine Price of Utica; a brother, Sam McGuffee of Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Port Gibson United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ed Hightower and David Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from noon Wednesday until the service at the church.

R.J. Fife

PATTISON R.J. Fife died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 76.

A longtime resident of Pattison, Mr. Fife was retired from R.G. LeTourneau Co. He was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Easter Fife; a daughter, Martha Fife; two sisters, Elois Hynum and Ima Rae Warnock; a brother, Jeff Fife; and a grandson, Kraemer Fife.

Survivors include two sons, Ricky Fife of Fayette and Wade Fife of Vicksburg; three daughters, Darlene King, Debbie Moore and Judy Shirey, all of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. Marlo Searey officiating. Burial will follow at Fife Cemetery in Claiborne County.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Robert Starnes, Chris Fife, Rick Fife, John Fife, Joe Fife, William Smith, Ernest Moore and Thad Greer.

Honorary pallbearers will be Malcolm Bailey, Frank Bailey, Woody Wigley, Becky Tustain, Dr. David Headley, Steve Greer, Sam Sorrells, Sally Porter, Walter Fowler, Vern Bailey, Randy Brent, Lamar Scott, Ted Powell and employees of Claiborne County Nursing Home and River Region Medical Center.

James Allen Walker Sr.

OAK GROVE James Allen Walker Sr. died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at Carroll Nursing Home in Oak Grove. He was 87.

Mr. Walker was born in Natchitoches Parish.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Sorell and Mable Glasscock Walker, and a sister, Bertha Patterson.

He is survived by two sons, James Allen Walker Jr. of Kenner, La., and Donald S. Walker of Monroe; two daughters, Christine Walker of Oak Grove and Linda Jarrette of Monroe; four brothers, Roy Walker, Marvin Walker and Willard Walker, all of Houston, Texas, and Gen. Harry D. Walker of Columbus, Ga.; a sister, Lovie Barrett of Tallulah; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi. Burial will follow at the Delhi Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 tonight at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove.
