Venie E. Skinner

Venie E. Skinner died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at Covenant Health and Rehab of Vicksburg. She was 89.

A native of Benton, Mrs. Skinner had lived in Vicksburg for the past 84 years. She had worked as a billing clerk for The Street Clinic. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James C. and Fannie Ray McCurdy; her husband, Frank W. Skinner Sr.; a brother, W.C. McCurdy Jr.; and four sisters, Lillian Jargon, Mabel Campbell, Birdye Ellison and Francis McCurdy.

Survivors include three sons, Thomas L. Skinner of Jackson, Frank W. Skinner and John D. Skinner of New Orleans; and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Ann Whittaker, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Skinner, Danny Niolet, James F. Park Jr., William C. Park, Hayes Carlisle and William Seabergh.

Josephine Young

Josephine Young died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 64.

A longtime resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Young was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Whitley and Alice Thomas Whitley; three sons, Jesse Ray Carson, Lee Arthur Carson and Mitchell Young Jr.; and two sisters, Hattie Jones and Florence Bailey.

She is survived by her husband, Mitchell Young; seven sons, Gary Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Michael Young, Willie Earl Young, Zachary Young and Gregory L. Young, all of Vicksburg, and Elbert Young of Macon, Ga.; seven daughters, Annie Ruth Johnson, Alice Johnson, Barbara Johnson Harris, Ruby Carson, Patricia Carson, Cariola Price and Maggie Thiambie, all of Vicksburg; two brothers, Willie Whitley of Vicksburg and William Whitley Jr. of Austin, Texas; a sister, Ruby Thomas of Vicksburg; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including members of the Whitley, Harris, Carson, Johnson and Williams families.
