PORT GIBSON Nannie Gaines-Smith died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 at River Region Medical Center. She was 82.

Mrs. Gaines-Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Spruge and Georgia Wilbert-Gaines; her husband, Anderson “Pat” Smith Jr; a son, Harry L. Smith; and two sisters, Ruby Gaines-Matthews and Maggie Gaines.

Survivors include a son, Anderson Smith III; a daughter, Georgia Smith of Lorman; a nephew; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rose Hill Christian Church in Russum with the Rev. Isaac Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at the East Mount Olive Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Friday and from 1 p.m. Sunday until the service at the funeral home.

Ceasar Belle Jones

Ceasar Belle Jones died today, Dec. 23, 2004, at her home. She was 76.

Mrs. Jones was retired from the Warren County Courthouse. She was a member of Triumph M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Issac Jones Sr., and a sister, Eddie Lee Johnson.

She is survived by five daughters, Janice M. Williams, Linda K. Powell and Donna R. Jones, all of Vicksburg, Brenda J. Jones of Gary, Ind., and Marcia G. “Gi-Gi” Bello of Anchorage, Alaska; a stepson, Issac Jones Jr. of Chicago; four brothers, Meridith Taylor Sr., Willie Taylor, Sydney J. Taylor and Sylvester Taylor Jr.; one sister, Ida Mease Murray of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including members of the Taylor, Carson, Young, McGraw, Majors, Winters and Miller families of Vicksburg.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Evan Wilson

SHREVEPORT, La. Evan “Big Man” Wilson died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at his home in Shreveport, La. He was 69.

Mr. Wilson had attended Claiborne County Training School. He lived in Oakland, Calif., before retiring to Shreveport. He was a member of St. Luke Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Gabe “Little Man” Wilson, and his parents, Addie Parker Wilson and Evan Wilson Sr.

He is survived by three daughters, Terry Ann Alexander of Natchez, Shirley Ann Wilson of New Orleans and Tavia Wilson of Hammond, Ind.; six sisters, Doris Polk of Port Gibson, Jessie Kemp of Cleveland, Ohio, Elizabeth Graves of Clinton, Angela Wilson of Chicago, Helena Denise Wilson of Fountain, Colo., and Barbara King of Richmond, Ga.; two brothers, Charlie Carpenter and Mark Hall, both of Chicago; two stepsisters, Adjoaidaish Bell Hall of Dallas, Texas, and Deloris Hall of Chicago; 20 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including Floyda Jean Rollins of Shreveport.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Christian Chapel Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. T.E. Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery in Pattison under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. Sunday until the service at the church.
