About to light the way

City of Vicksburg employee Richard Scott directs traffic near the closed right lane of Halls Ferry Road as work began Tuesday to install lights under the Confederate Avenue bridge. The city crews were sweeping and removing debris to prepare for the bricklaying that will go along with lights designed to brighten the 69–year-old bridge on Confederate that crosses Halls Ferry. The bricks are being moved so underground power lines can be installed beneath the bridge that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. City officials have said the project to light the bridge, at a cost of $3,000, will take about two weeks. (Jon Giffin The Vicksburg Post)
