Priscilla Broome
BATON ROUGE Priscilla Broome died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, in Baton Rouge. She was 93.
Mrs. Broome was a member and mother at Waterloo M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lauren Bowie-Hayes.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Kirkland of Los Angeles; a sister, Annette Johnson of Chicago; four grandchildren, Sharon Burgmon of Baton Rouge, Mikita Robinson of Houston, Deidra Kirkland of Washington, D.C., and Theodore Kirkland; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Waterloo M.B. Church in Lorman with the Rev. Leon Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Waterloo M.B. Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at Thompson Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of service.
John Michael Chappell
John Michael Chappell died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. He was 72.
Born in Greenville, Mr. Chappell was a longtime Vicksburg resident. He graduated from St. Aloysius High School and attended the University of Southern Mississippi.
He served in the Marine Corps and was later employed in retail sales. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a communicant of St. Paul Catholic Church.
Mr. Chappell was preceded in death by his parents, Simpson Carter Sr. and Bertha White Chappell, and a brother, Simpson Chappell Jr.
Survivors include two sisters, Carolyn Mason of Vicksburg and Mary Sue Cappaert of South Hill, Va.; and nieces and nephews.
Riles Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Pairlee Denise Windom Fung
ROLLING FORK Pairlee Denise Windom Fung died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at King’s Daughters Hospital in Greenville. She was 24.
Miss Fung was a resident of Rolling Fork.
She is survived by her parents, Ronald and Mary Fung of Rolling Fork; two brothers, Edward Polk Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, and Zenas T. Fung of Rolling Fork; and three sisters, Linda Polk, Rena Polk and Sylvia Pope, all of Dayton.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of God in Rolling Fork with Pastor Davell Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Ollie Cemetery in Egremont.
Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
Jeff Grimes Sr.
Jeff Grimes Sr. died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 68.
Mr. Grimes was born in Mobile, Ala., to Fred and Julia Traywick Grimes. He worked as a machine tender for International Paper Co., retiring in 1995 after 39 years of service. He was a member of the Elks BPOE No. 95 and the International Paper Retirees Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant twin sons.
Survivors include a son, Jeff Grimes Jr. of Florence; two daughters, Debra Grimes Lee and Billie Grimes Latham, both of Vicksburg; one brother, Burl Grimes of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Freddie Barrow and Kate Barber, both of Mobile; and six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert H. Weatherly officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Grimes Jr., Mike Dollar, James Miles, Bobby Gentry, Dean Sprouse and Jerry McCarthy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Morley, Dan Bailey, Johnny Means, Stanley Lee, Hays Latham, Richard Marcus, Blackey Worthy and members of the IP Retirees Club.
Ardell M. Pickering
DELHI Ardell M. Pickering died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi. She was 87.
Mrs. Pickering was a resident of Delhi. She had operated a family dry goods store with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ace Morris and Lula Clark Morris; a daughter, Helen Bailey; and her husband, Chester W. Pickering.
She is survived by two daughters, Chestene Pickering and Hazel Henderson, both of Delhi; two sons, James Roy Pickering of Montana and Robert Pickering of Pioneer, La.; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi with the Rev. Shane Lester officiating. Burial will follow at Epps Cemetery.
Bennie Earl Stewart
PORT GIBSON Bennie Earl Stewart died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at his home in Port Gibson. He was 55.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Stewart and Margaret McGee-Stewart; a brother, L.C. Stewart; and a daughter, Angelia Stewart.
He is survived by five brothers, George Stewart Jr. of Pattison, Claudie Stewart and Willie Stewart, both of Chicago, Allen Stewart and Johnnie Stewart, both of Peoria, Ill.; four sisters, Rose O. Kendall of Los Angeles, Alice Smith of Chicago, Anna Moredock of Peoria and Bertha Smith of Greenville; one granddaughter, Audriauanna Stewart of Port Gibson; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater St. Mark M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Leon Howard officiating. Burial will follow at McCay Cemetery in Lorman.
Visitation will be at Thompson Funeral Home from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service.
