[1/21/05]In their first season of soccer, Porters Chapel has gone 0-8 and scored one goal.
In the Mississippi Private Schools Association, that’s just good enough.
The Eagles, who lost 10-0 on Thursday to Lee Academy, reached the state playoffs thanks to a lone goal in a loss to Starkville. A team in the South also went winless this season and also scored one goal. It came against an Academy-AA team. PCA’s goal came against Starkville, an Academy-AAA team, meaning PCA received three extra power points and a trip to the postseason.
“I had to read the memo a couple times,” PCA coach Chris Busby said.
The playoff brackets have yet to be completed, but Busby said his team will play a AA team in the first round.

Having lost a shot at the postseason, the St. Aloysius Lady Flashes (13-7) are making sure they don’t lose focus as they build toward next season.
On Thursday night, Andrea Harrison scored three first-half goals and St. Aloysius erased an early 1-0 deficit for a convincing win over the Class 5A Lady Mustangs at Balzli Field.
Murrah scored three minutes into the game, but managed only two first-half shots the rest of the night.
Hayley Davis scored two second-half goals and Krista McCollum added a tally in the victory.
“We were rusty,” St. Al coach Karen Carroll said. “We’ve played a few games this year against teams we have already beaten and we think all we have to do is show up to win.”
Harrison scored her first goal with 14 minutes left in the first half, then connected on her second four minutes later. Her third goal came with about 25 seconds to play in the first half.
Shana Stanton, Rebecca Sigh, Erin Sigh, McCollum, Harrison and Davis each had an assist.
