Vicksburg wins 18-0, clears way for title game

[1/15/05]Vicksburg’s warmup for today’s showdown with Warren Central turned into little more than a shooting gallery under stadium lights.

Vicksburg (8-8-2) scored nine goals in each half for an 18-0 win over Forest Hill. The victory clears the way for today’s VHS-WC matchup to be for the Division 6-5A championship.

Miranda Hunt, Holly Head, Lucy Matthews, Beverley Simmons, Crystal Davidson and Diari Gilliam each scored two goals for the Missy Gators. Jill Rush, Tayvi Ellis, Rebecca Wilson, Laura Johnston, Lindsey Jones and Kathy Allen each scored one goal.

Forest Hill did not attempt a shot and barely crossed midfield, VHS coach Kevin Manton said. He added that he lost count of shots somewhere after 30.

Michael Cooper and Matt Minyard each scored three goals to pace the Gators to a blowout. Coleman Morrison, Jay Hall, Josh Dixon, Cody Massey and John Howard each scored a goal for Vicksburg (9-7-1). Minyard contributed two assists.

(G) St. Al 5, Natchez 1

Andrea Harrison scored three goals, and Lauren Lanier and Haley Davis each scored one as St. Al routed Natchez. Krista McCollum and Shana Stanton had an assist for the Lady Flashes (10-7), who scored four goals in the first 15 minutes.
