Corine Thelma McGraw Carr
Corine Thelma McGraw Carr died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at her home. She was 85.
Mrs. Carr was retired from Knapp’s Bakery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Carr Sr.; her parents, Alex and Lubertha McGraw; four brothers, William McGraw, Leon McGraw, Alex McGraw Jr. and Clifford McGraw; three sisters, Bernice Smith, Josephine Bullock and Ernestine Ferguson; a son, Clifton Carr; and two grandchildren, Terrence Taylor and Julia Wince.
Survivors include three sons, Leon Carr Jr. and George Carr, both of Vicksburg, and Dale Carr of Hazlehurst; six daughters, Deloris Sims, Brenda Townsend, Eleanor Coleman and Jacqueline Latham, all of Vicksburg, Gloria Taylor of New Orleans and Shirley Green of Plainfield, N.J.; 45 grandchildren, including Gail Martin and Latasha Carr, whom she reared; 93 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including members of the McGraw, Martin, Darden, Naylor and Dillon families.
Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeview Funeral Home.
William Douglas Sr.
William Douglas Sr. died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 85.
Mr. Douglas was a retired heavy-equipment operator from Anderson-Tully Co. He served in the Navy in World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Ernestine Douglas and Jessie Douglas; three brothers, John Douglas, Henry Douglas and Mose Douglas; four sisters, Annie Douglas, Easter Green, Carrie Jones and Amanda Jackson; and his parents, William and Emily Roach Douglas.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Curry Douglas of Vicksburg; three sons, William Douglas Jr. and Ernest “Grit” Douglas, both of Vicksburg, and Roosevelt Douglas of Los Angeles; three daughters, Mattie D. Wilson and Janie Douglas, both of Vicksburg, and Hattie Douglas of Los Angeles; a brother, Robert Douglas of Los Angeles; two sisters, Lillian Rucker of Natchez and Laura Washington of Chicago Heights, Ill.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including members of the Smith, Lincoln and Washington families of Vicksburg.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
William R. Porter Sr.
William R. “Bill” Porter Sr. died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at his home in Valley Park. He was 70.
Mr. Porter was born in Straight Bayou, Miss., and lived a number of years in Simi Valley, Calif. He was a former Vicksburg resident and had lived in Valley Park since 1978. He was a veteran of the Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Beulah Porter, and a brother, James D. Porter.
Survivors include a son, William R. Porter Jr. of Simi Valley; two daughters, Debbie Porter and Pam Nafus, both of Simi Valley; two brothers, Ted Porter and Melvin James Porter Jr., both of Valley Park; three sisters, Betty Kober, Sue Embry and Lucille Wooley, all of Vicksburg; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Ensign officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from noon Wednesday until the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be R.E. Coker, Rodney Porter, Terrell Porter, Tommy Wooley, Billy Hodnett and Leonard Miller.
James Grady Trichell
James Grady Trichell died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. He was 63.
Born in Monroe, Mr. Trichell lived in Vicksburg for 24 years before returning to Monroe in 1988. He retired as a lieutenant with the Vicksburg Fire Department after 24 years of service and from the maintenance department at All Saints’ Episcopal School.
He was of the Pentecostal faith.
Mr. Trichell was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Trichell.
He is survived by two daughters, Gina Poticher of Vicksburg and Susie Stokes of Monroe; one son, Jimmy Trichell of Newport News, Va.; two sisters, Kathy Trichell Gilstrap and Dot Trichell Battaglia, both of Monroe; two brothers, Calvin Trichell of Marksville, La., and John Trichell of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; and friends, including Joan Berry of Winnsboro, La.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Welborn, pastor of Warrenton Independent Baptist Church, and Jack Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Phillips, Jessie Baker, Walter Beamon, Danny Davis, Sean Trichell and Robert Poticher.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Vicksburg Fire Department.
