Bogue Chitto (16-7, 8-3) led 39-26 but managed just three points in the final quarter. The Lady Bobcats did not record a field goal until 1:53 remained, but that was enough to give them a 42-32 lead.

St. Al got baskets from Kerut and Laura Weeks in the final 15 seconds to account for the six-point final.

“We had our opportunties, but we just couldn’t get a shot to go down,” said St. Al coach Drew McBrayer. “Our defense was aggressive and kept us in it.”

Bogue Chitto coach Jill Terrell was not pleased with her team’s fourth quarter.

“It was terrible. We choked pretty badly in the fourth quarter,” she said.

Bogue Chitto never trailed, breaking out to a 6-0 lead. It was 13-9 after one quarter and 25-16 at the half.

The Lady Bobcats increased the lead to 13 by the end of the third quarter after making 6-of-7 free throws.

The fourth quarter, though, saw neither team make much of anything. Kerut made a layup with 4:03 left to break a near four-minute drought.

Bogue Chitto got a free throw from Chelsey Miller about 30 seconds later to make it 40-30.

It stayed that way until 2:10 remained when Kerut drained a 19-foot jumper. Kimberlee Thomas answered for Bogue Chitto to keep the lead at 10.

For the game, St. Al was 15-of-48 from the field for 31 percent. Bogue Chitto was 13-of-36 but made just one of nine free throws in the fourth quarter.

Thomas led Bogue Chitto with 15 points. Meleah Brown had 13.

The St. Al boys appeared set to win their second game in as many nights, but fell apart over the final 14 minutes.

Bogue Chitto scored just nine points in the first half and trailed by 16 at 25-9 after an opening third quarter basket by St. Al’s Chase Smith.

The Flashes (7-17, 5-7) made just four more field goals the remainder of the game. The Bobcats (3-20) came alive behind Antwain Lyons, who scored 10 of his 16 points in the third quarter.

St. Al still had a 31-25 lead going into the fourth but could not score, defend or protect the ball during a critical six-minute stretch.

Smith finished with 15 points and Marsh Willis had nine.

Dantae Radcliff and Joseph Hart each had 10 points for Bogue Chitto.
