Louis Bingham

COMO, Miss. – Louis Bingham, formerly of Vicksburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at Methodist Hospital of Memphis. He was 72.

Mr. Bingham was born in Vicksburg to the late Rev. J.R. Bingham and Julia Edmond Bingham. He was a resident of Como.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arilla Bingham; four brothers, Lemuel “Jack” Bingham, Judge R. Bingham, the Rev. Joseph T. Bingham and Jeremiah D. Bingham; and two sisters, Alma B. Rollinson and Frances Bingham

He is survived by two sons, Louis Bingham Jr. of Como and Terrence Bingham of Munich, Germany; one daughter, Angela Bingham of Memphis; two brothers, George Bingham of Grenada and Haskell Bingham of Petersburg, Va.; three sisters, Priscilla Spencer and Roberta Kennedy, both of Vicksburg, and Julia B. Thomas of Greenville; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cooley Mortuary of Batesville has charge of arrangements.

Annie Mae Bass Hall

Services for Annie Mae “Sister” Bass Hall will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Rock of Ages M.B. Church with Michael R. Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Hall died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 86.

A resident of Warren County, Mrs. Hall was born in the Stocksdale community and reared in the Cedars community. She attended Warren County public schools.

She was a domestic worker and cook, having worked for the Gerache, Hearn, Mercer and Perry families of Vicksburg. She retired from Bowmar Avenue Baptist Church after 33 years of service.

She was a member of Rock of Ages M.B. Church for more than 60 years and served as president in the Pastor’s Aid Club. Mrs. Hall was a member of the Loving Unity Society and Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “T.J.” Jefferson Hall Sr.; two sons, Thomas Jefferson Hall Jr. and Louis Daniel Hall; her parents, Isom and Hattie Bass; eight brothers, Will Bass, John Henry Bass, Benjamin Bass, Sidney Bass, Sylvester Bass, Major Bass, Kelloge Bass and Adolf Bass; five sisters, Pearl Thomas, Leony Bingham, Flora Reed, Mary Davenport and Ruth Kent; and one grandson, Dannye L. Hall.

Survivors include one son, John “Bonnie” Henry Hall of Vicksburg; one daughter, Sandra D. Hall; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives including members of the Bass, Hall and Bingham families of Vicksburg.

Gloria Neal Ivy

Gloria Neal Ivy died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 48.

Mrs. Ivy was the daughter of Georgia Neal and the late Jimmie Neal Sr.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home of Vicksburg has charge of arrangements.

J.C. Lighter

Services for J.C. Lighter will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church No. 2 with the Rev. Douglas Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home.

Mr. Lighter died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 92.

Mr. Lighter was born in Utica. He retired from the Corps of Engineers’ Government Fleet Division.

He was a member of Sunshine Lodge No. 99 and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Claude “Bud” Lighter; his mother, Rosie Myles Lighter; a son, J.B. Lighter; two sisters, Ella Mae Lighter and Laura Lighter; and three brothers, R.C. Lighter, Ruben Lighter and Nathan Lighter.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie Marley Lighter of Vicksburg; one son, Willie K. Childress of Wichita, Kan.; one daughter, Ruth Lewis of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Kenneth Washington

ROLLING FORK – Kenneth Washington died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 53.

Mr. Washington retired from the State Forestry Commission after 12 years of service. He was a Rolling Fork resident.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy G. Washington of Rolling Fork; one son, Lee Bonnetty of Kaufman, Texas; three daughters, Lisa Armstrong of New Orleans, Angiel Bonnetty of Rolling Fork and Lori Bonnetty; his mother, Mary Washington of Rolling Fork; five brothers, Earl Washington III of Antioch, Tenn., Gerald Washington of Nashville, Tenn., Andrew Washington of Atlanta, Marvin Washington of McDougal, Ga., and Michael Washington of Elkridge, Md.; two sisters, Yvonne Montgomery of Edmond, Okla., and Karen Sandifer of Wichita, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Lula M.B. Church in Rolling Fork with Pastor Elijah Eason officiating. Burial will follow at Green Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork and Friday at the church from noon until the service.

Mary Whitley

Mary Whitley died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at Covenant Health and Rehab of Vicksburg. She was 86.

Born in Red Lick, Mrs. Whitley was a resident of the Ballground community.

She was a member of Pleasant Valley M.B. Church and was an honorary member of Mount Zion M.B. Church at Ballground. She was a member of the Willing Workers Club and a former member of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James “Jim” Smith and Lettie “Let” McCoy Smith; three sons, Charlie Williams, Dan Whitley and Lee James Williams; three sisters, Lucrisa Ennis, Gertrude Carpenter and Katie Miller; and two brothers, James “Pete” Smith and Claude Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Leon Whitley; four daughters, Claire Pettis of Memphis, Mary Louise Wright of Chicago and Bertha Mixon and Deloris Lott, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Margaret Criss of Vicksburg; 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
