Virginia Maudine Bailey

BROOKHAVEN – Virginia Maudine “Ginny” Bailey died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 56.

Mrs. Bailey was born in East St. Louis and was a resident of Brookhaven. She worked for 10 years in risk management and community affairs for Wal-Mart SuperCenter. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Hammons.

She is survived by two sons, Danny Bailey of Illinois and Lance Bailey of Las Vegas; a daughter, Bernadine Bailey of Las Vegas; her mother, Effie Hammons; one brother, Robert Hammons Jr. of Vicksburg; three sisters, Sherry Kratz of Alabama, Nancy Carpenter of Brookhaven and Patricia Rushing of Marissa, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Riverwood Family Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Charlotte JoAnn Covington

ROLLING FORK – Services for Charlotte JoAnn Covington were at 10:30 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Millard Caulder officiating. Burial followed at Mound Cemetery.

Mrs. Covington died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 69.

Mrs. Covington was born in Mesidale, N.Y., and had lived in Rolling Fork for 41 years. She was a veteran of the Air Force.

She was a veterinarian assistant and attended the First Baptist Church of Rolling Fork.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Ray Covington of Rolling Fork; one son, Mark Douglas Covington of Rolling Fork; one daughter, Pamela Covington Hearn of Vicksburg; two sisters, Shirley Serrao of Fort Meyers, Fla., and June Babcock of Beverly Hills, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Robert Golitz, Peter Byrd, Jerry Stevens, Brent Rutland, Marlon Nichols and Bill Rutherford.

Honorary pallbearers were Bert Darden, Charlie Darden and Joe Ford.

Geneva Davenport

MAYERSVILLE – Geneva Davenport died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. She was 86.

Born in Clarkton, Mo., Mrs. Davenport lived in Columbia, Mo., for a number of years and had lived in Mayersville since 1986. She was a member of Deer Creek Baptist Church in Rolling Fork.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Irene Cox of Rolling Fork; nieces and a nephew.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Carl Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Thursday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Sherrill, Shea Sherrill, Rickey Cox, Chip Dinning, Todd Heigle and Dave Duncan.

Ether M. Hunter

Ether M. Hunter died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. She was 55.

Mrs. Hunter retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service and had worked for the Corps of Engineers. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Virnice Willis Hunter, and a brother, McArthur Hunter.

Survivors include one son, Kieran Michael Hunter of North Carolina; two daughters, Tiffany Byrdsong and LaToska Hunter, both of Vicksburg; four brothers, Willie J. Hunter, Emmitt D. Hunter and Glenn Hunter, all of Vicksburg, and Charles Hunter of Seaside, Calif.; two sisters, Ernestine Hunter and Patricia Hunter Brown, both of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
