Rebecca Eva Willis Anderson

PORT GIBSON – Rebecca Eva Willis Anderson died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at her home in St. Louis, Mo. She was 86.

Mrs. Anderson was a native of Claiborne County, where she lived most of her life. She was the daughter of the late David and Clair Willis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hardy Troy Anderson; a son, H.J. Anderson; a daughter, Lynda Bufkin; one grandson, Hardy Anderson; and three brothers and a sister.

She is survived by one son, David Evan Anderson of Utica; two daughters, Mildred Fulton of St. Louis and Elsie Cressman of Jackson, Tenn.; four sisters, Mary Kate Anderson and Bessie Mae Anderson, both of Port Gibson, Marie Williams of McNeil and Bobbie Floyd of Gonzales, La.; and 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. Toby Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Hermanville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Calvin Earl Bostick

PIONEER, La. – Calvin Earl Bostick died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi. He was 54.

Mr. Bostick was born in Holly Ridge, La., and was a resident of Pioneer, La.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl J. and Louise Carson Bostick, and a brother, William “Bill” Bostick.

He is survived by two daughters, Jamie Dale Bostick of Pioneer and Rhonda Lynn Garrett of Rayville; one son, Jason Hawthorne of Darnell, La.; two sisters, Barbara Mardis of Greenville and Dorothy Bell of Natchez; two granddaughters; and other relatives and friends, including John Robert McIntosh of Oak Grove.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Buck Curry officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bastrop, La.

Visitation will be from 2 until 10 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ricky “Cooter” Hendrix, Chris Pillars, Troy Hendrix, Johnny Crosby, Michael Laborde and Dan Reiter.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bo Johnson, Willie Ray Jackson and Wayne Patrick.

Jeff B. Bowen Sr.

Jeff B. Bowen Sr. died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 83.

Born in Grenada, Mr. Bowen had been a Vicksburg resident since 1964. He was retired from the Vicksburg District Corps of Engineers as Chief of the Geodesy Section of the Surveying Branch.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of the Paxton Masonic Lodge, where he was a past master. He was a member of the York Rite Body and KYCH. He was a member of Accacia Chapter of the Eastern Star and Demolay Capital of Preceptory Legion of Honor.

Mr. Bowen was a member of Highland Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a wife, Emma Grace Bowen.

He is survived by his wife, Martha C. Bowen of Vicksburg; two daughters, Bettie M. Bowen of Beaverton, Ore., and Julia A. Nosser of Vicksburg; a son, Jeff Bowen Jr. of Winona; a stepson, Lamar Moore of North Hampton, Mass., and a stepdaughter, Lynda Young of Meridian; four sisters, Bennie Hemphill and Betty Branscome, both of Grenada, Faye James of Montgomery, Ala., and Christine Hales of Vicksburg; two brothers, John W. Bowen III of Edwards and Harold R. Bowen of Greenwood; six grandchildren, Joseph Nosser, Lauren Nosser and Jennifer Bennett, all of Vicksburg, David Young Jr. and Krystal Young, both of Meridian, and Caylx Moore of North Hampton; and one great-grandchild, Jaylon Pruitt of Meridian.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Brian Ivy and Ed Hightower officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Harold Hollingsworth, Joe Lyons, Jimmy Harrison, David Young, John W. Bowen IV and Robert J. Sykes Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Accacia Chapter of the Eastern Star, members of Paxton and Stevens lodges, and members of the York Rite and Shriners of Vicksburg.

Ollie M. Cook

Ollie M. Cook died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 93.

A homemaker, Miss Cook was a member of Oak Chapel M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elijah Cook and Theresa Redford, and a sister, Ora Owens.

She is survived by one brother, Elex Cook of Vallejo, Calif.; one sister, Ethel Robinson of Vallejo; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Rachel Shaw Logue Finkie

Rachel Shaw Logue Finkie died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Heritage House Nursing Home. She was 83.

Mrs. Finkie retired after 30 years from NASA at Cape Kennedy, Fla. She made her home in Orlando, Fla.

Following her retirement, she taught basic computer science for 10 years at the Orange County Vo-Tech. She had been a Heritage House resident for the past few years.

She was reared in Vicksburg and attended Carr Central High School, graduating in 1939.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert D. Shaw; her mother, Bobbie Sandifer; and two brothers, Robert Shaw Jr. and John Shaw.

Survivors include a son, Louis H. Logue of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Private services were under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Fred M. Najour

Fred M. Najour died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 86.

Born in Atlanta, Ga., Mr. Najour had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1947. He was the son of the late Michael George Najour and Maheb Feckoury Najour.

A natural athlete, he had a long baseball career in which he was captain of the Atlanta Ordnance Depot, the 1942 National Amateur Champions.

In 1950, he and his wife, Emma Lee Koury Najour, opened Frederick’s Shoe Store. He was a veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the Masonic Order, the Vicksburg Main Street Program, the Vicksburg Lions Club, the American Bowling Congress and Holiday Lanes’ 300 Club of Vicksburg.

He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, where he was a member of the Men of St. George and a former member of the Parish Council.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Maggie Mitchell and Dora Najour, and two brothers, William Najour and George Najour.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Lee Koury Najour of Vicksburg; a daughter, Norma Najour Massey of Vicksburg; two granddaughters, Kelley K. Massey and Stacey M. Nosser, both of Vicksburg; a grandson, Remy Massey of Vicksburg; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua Christian Eargle and Koury Elizabeth Eargle, both of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church with the Very Rev. John Morris, pastor, and the Very Rev. David Ogan officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Riles Funeral Home with Trisagion prayers at 7 p.m. The body will be in the church at at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Ellis Koury, Remy Massey, George Gerard Najour, John Eargle, David Joseph “Rowdy” Nosser, Ellis Glen Koury, Albert Joseph “Dobie” Nosser, David Hosemann, Wayne Thornton, Joshua Eargle, Richard Massey, Tim Bennett, Ben Shaw and Jim Gragg.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Daniel Edney, Dr. Murray Whitaker, Dr. David M. Halinski, Kim Holt RT, Men of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, and the staff of River Region Medical Center and Promise Specialty Hospital.

Barbara Stampley

Barbara Stampley died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at her home. She was 55.

Mrs. Stampley was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Sterling.

She is survived by her mother, Daisy Sterling; a sister, Bennie Louise Miller; and nieces, nephews and other relatives in Vicksburg and Houston, Texas, including the Scott family.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

James H. Womack Jr.

LOCK PORT, La. – James H. “Mack” Womack Jr. died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at his home in Lock Port, La. He was 49.

Mr. Womack was born in Mer Rouge, La., and, in 1968, moved to Vicksburg where he worked at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was chief financial officer for Hospital Administrations.

He was a former member of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Womack and Sara McCormack Womack.

He is survived by his wife, Tecia Womack; one son, Kolby Womack; two daughters, Ashley Womack and Sara Womack; two brothers, John Womack of Winchester, Va., and Randy Womack of Baton Rouge; his stepmother, Bess Womack of Vicksburg; two stepbrothers, Reagan Knight and Stuart Knight; and a stepsister, Betty Sue Thompson.
