Barbara Francis Banks
Barbara Francis Banks died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Covenant Health Care. She was 78.
Mrs. Banks was a retired teacher with the Vicksburg Public School system and a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, National Teachers Association, Mississippi Teachers Association and Rowan Friendship Club.
She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Charlotte Weir; three brothers, James Weir, Frank L. Weir and Willie B. Weir; a sister, Charlotte Weir; and a grandson, Trawick Winn.
She is survived by two sons, Preston Banks Jr., and Leonard M. Banks, both of Vicksburg; a daughter, Ella Bessie Banks Jones of Pittsburg, Penn.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives including Barbara Harris of Vicksburg.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Lillie Dale
Lillie Dale died Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Hospice Center in Madison. She was 55.
Mrs. Dale was reared in Straight Bayou, Miss., but lived most of her life in Rolling Fork. For the past 10 years she had lived in Jackson.
She was employed as an LPN for Willowcreek Retirement Center in Byram. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson.
She is survived by her husband, Roger E. Dale of Eagle Lake; three sons, William Scott Dale of Jackson, Robert Michael Dale of Vicksburg and Roger Dale Jr. of Wildwood, Fla.; a daughter, Angela Kaye Dale of Jackson; a brother, Billy McCoy of Florence, Miss.; four sisters, Berthy Lee Hunter of Smiths, Ala., Carolyn Hodnett of Straight Bayou, Miss., Mildred Polk of Richland, Miss., and Shirley Stewart of Anguilla, and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Millard Caulder and the Rev. Reese Kyzar officiating. Burial will follow at Straight Bayou Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Robert Hodnett, Russ Stewart, Ross Dale, Dan Dale, Wes Franklin and Dan McClendon.
Alvin L. Dillard
Alvin L. Dillard died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in Washington, D.C. He was 47.
Mr. Dillard was employed at Lowes Hotel in Washington. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy “Chris” Dillard.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Dillard of Vicksburg, and other relatives, including Brian Carter and Christine Carter of Chicago.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Dorothy Prentiss
Dorothy Prentiss died Tuesday, March 15, 2005. She was 90.
Mrs. Prentiss was a resident of Vicksburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Prentiss Sr.
Services will be Monday at Cosmopolitan Community Church in Chicago.
