The water system at the Ceres Research and Industrial Interplex needs more than $430,000 in repairs, officials of the Culkin Water District told the Warren County Port Commission Monday.

The commission operates the Ceres park at Flowers for Warren County, including the water mains and the two elevated water tanks. The water district supplies the water delivered through the system to the industries and other users at Ceres, developed by the county starting in 1987.

Ken McClellan, water district manager, told the port commissioners he and Derrick Tucker, an engineer with Neel-Schaffer Inc., they were appearing in response to a request for a report on the water system. Although Ceres is within Culkin’s area of service, the water used by the industrial park does not come from the district’s main supply. It has a separate well.

Tucker told the board a valve change would allow both tanks to fill and that both tanks need interior and exterior painting, repairs to security fencing and lighting improvements.

The estimate of the cost, including design engineering and construction engineering is $434,890.

Commissioners said they would study the report.

In other business, Linda Watts, assistant port executive director, told commissioners window panes at the plantation house at Ceres were damaged in the recent hail storm and emergency repairs were made at a cost of about $500.

She also said 128 skylights and roofs were damaged at the Port of Vicksburg on the E.W. Haining Industrial Center and repairs were under way.
