Ellis J. Gilmore

DELHI – Ellis J. Gilmore died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at St. Francis Specialty Hospital in Monroe. He was 77.

Mr. Gilmore was a 1945 graduate of Anacoco High School and a resident of Delhi for 29 years. He was also a Navy veteran of World War II. He retired as a compressor station superintendent for Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline after 36 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Julian Gilmore and Mary Jane Stringer Gilmore McKee.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Bernice Swarner Gilmore of Delhi; one daughter, Dianna Lynn Gilmore Perkins of Natchez; two sons, Donald Ellis Gilmore of Delhi and William Harvey Gilmore of Castle Rock, Colo.; one brother, William Charles McKee of Gastonia, N.C.; a sister, Barbara McKee Gardner of Coquille, Ore.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Delhi with the Rev. Dr. Marcus Murphy officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Greenville, Miss.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. George Edwards, Dr. Kenneth E. McDonald, W.B. “Dub” Sumner and employees of ANR Pipeline Company.

Touphie G. Habeeb

Services for Touphie G. Habeeb were at 11 a.m. today at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church with the Very Rev. John Morris, pastor, officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Mr. Habeeb died Friday, March 25, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 90.

Mr. Habeeb was born in Lebanon and was the son of the late Alexander Elias Habeeb and Loretta Deeb Habeeb,

He was a 1933 graduate of Carr Central High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Mr. Habeeb was a member of the family grocery business until 1965. He retired from the Waterways Experiment Station Environmental Laboratory in 1989.

He was a lifelong member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and the Men of the Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William Habeeb, Phillip Habeeb and Shouphie Habeeb, and a sister, Maggie Habeeb Abraham.

He is survived by his wife, Mable Fulton Habeeb; two daughters, Ann Habeeb of Vicksburg and Pam Boozer and her husband, Michael, of Diamondhead; one son, Alex Habeeb and his wife, Kate, of Madison; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Sarah Boozer of Diamondhead; one sister, Waddad Buttross of Natchez; one brother, Dr. Alfred H. Habeeb of Birmingham, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Gregory Thomas, Joe Stradinger, Dr. Alfred Habeeb Jr., Luke Abney, Doug Panzone and his children, Ann, Pam and Alex.

Honorary pallbearers were Peter Buttross Jr., Phillip Habeeb, Dr. Mark Habeeb, Chuck Abraham, David Abraham, Charles Abraham, Lee Thomas Jr., Alex Stradinger, Billy McDaniels and Vernon Fulton.

Memorials may be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 2709 Washington St., Vicksburg, MS 39180 or to a favorite charity.

Ruby Porter

OAK GROVE – Ruby Porter died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at Willis Knight Bossier in Bossier City. She was 88.

Mrs. Porter was born in Brookhaven, Miss.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Rosie Mason; her husband, Lowell Porter; a son, Bobby R. Porter; and a grandson, Jimmy Porter.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Johnson of Haughton, La.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Grove with the Rev. Mike Ray officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be until 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Mark Bowman, Dale Borden, David Johnson, Michael Johnson, Trey Johnson and Jimmy Robinson.

Norman V. Robinson

Services for Norman V. Robinson were at 10 a.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Brumfield officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Robinson died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at his home. He was 80.

A native of Laurel, Mr. Robinson was a Louisiana resident before moving to Vicksburg in 1935. He was the son of the late Grover and Vinney Stringer Robinson.

A carpenter, he retired in 1982 from Big River Shipbuilders. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alene Ford Sharp and Evelyn Hull; two brothers, Haskel Robinson and Billy Ray Robinson; one son, Wayne Robinson; and his wife, Annie Robinson.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Ingram and April Gray, both of Vicksburg, and Dorothy Wicker of Tallulah; one son, Roy Robinson of Vicksburg; two sisters, Doris Davis and Helen Sink, both of Vicksburg; one brother, Charles Robinson of Springfield, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were J.R. Robinson, Jimmy Wicker, Jason Wicker, Keith Martin, Ricky Smith, Ronnie Ingram and Perry Boyd.

Honorary pallbearers were Dewey Owsley Jr., Mike Franco, Fred Wells and George Wells.
