R.K. “Micky” Branan Sr.

R.K. “Micky” Branan Sr. died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Covington Hospital in Collins. He was 82.

Mr. Branan was born in Vicksburg to the late Oscar I. and Mamie Stevenson Branan. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army’s Armored Engineer Battalion. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a member of the Catholic faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Branan; two brothers; and four sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Eugene Branan of Bogalusa, La., Otto Branan of McComb and Reginald K. Branan Jr., of Ponchatoula, La.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 this evening at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Lee W. Barber, Ricky Barber, Ben Ervin, Jimmy Harrison, Martin Pace and Delbert Wood.

Melva Theresa Johnson Buchanan

Melva Theresa “Melva T” Johnson Buchanan died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 46.

Mrs. Buchanan was a member of Mercy Seat M.B. Church and attended Mount Zion No. 1 Baptist Church and Faith Christian Church. She was retired from the Social Security Administration as a claims representative.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Buchanan Jr.; father, Henry Holly; grandparents, Willie Johnson and Theresa Lacey; and granddaughter, Alexia T. Johnson.

Survivors include a son, Albert Buchanan III of Vicksburg; two daughters, Autumn Johnson of San Diego, Calif., and Amber Buchanan of Vicksburg; her mother, Verna Davis and stepfather, Jerome Nickson, both of Vicksburg; a brother, Elwin Johnson of Vicksburg; three grandchildren, Anthony Jones Jr., Armani Jones and Alexander Ellis III, all of Vicksburg; four uncles, the Rev. Rudy Smith of Vicksburg, Jessie Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., Edwin Smith of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Zeke Johnson of Chicago; two aunts, Gladys McMorris of Brookhaven and Melva Johnson of Columbia, S.C.; a stepfather who reared her, Louis Davis of Vicksburg; a stepsister, Sylvia Brown of Vicksburg; a godsister, Debra Brown of Vicksburg; a godbrother, T.J. Robinson of Houston, Texas; and members of the Akers, Patterson and Nickson families.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at Vicksburg Family Life Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Arthur Hicks officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Open visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at Williams Funeral Service Chapel.

Ernest Burks

Services for Ernest Burks will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Travelers Church, 1701 Poplar St. Burial will follow at Little Zion Church Cemetery in Edwards.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 tonight at Williams Funeral Service.

Mr. Burks died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 76.

Mr. Burks was retired from Matthew Auto Parts. He was a World War II veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Burks and Elzena Casell; a brother, Eddie Tom Burks; and a son, Eleon Banks.

Survivors include a son, Edwin E. Burks of New Orleans; two grandchildren and two nephews.

Tammy Davis

UTICA – Tammy Davis died Monday, April 4, 2005, at her home in Utica. She was 32.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at West Haven Memorial Funeral Home in Utica. Burial will follow at Strawbridge Church Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Higginbottom officiating. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday at West Haven Memorial Funeral Home.

Wesley O. Edison

CARY – Wesley O. Edison died April 1, 2005, at Sharkey Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. He was 38.

Survivors include her parents, West and Henrene Edison of Cary; one son, Courtney Shelton of Cary; one daughter, Brinesha Shanta of Cary; two brothers, Wayne Edison of Hattiesburg and Tyrone Edison of Vicksburg; and one sister, Connie Dunigan of Cary.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Zion M.B. Church in Cary with the Rev. Willie Ray Gill officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Community Cemetery in Cary.
