George H. Brown Jr.
Services for George H. Brown Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul M.B. Church in Bovina with the Rev. Tyrone Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul M.B. Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. Sunday at Robbins Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Monday until the service at the church.
Mr. Brown died Friday, April 8, 2005, at Promise Specialty Hospital in Vicksburg. He was 70.
Mr. Brown was a retired mechanic from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was a resident of Vicksburg. He served on the usher board at St. Paul M.B. Church in Bovina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Brown Sr. and Sarah Williams Lynn; two sons; three brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Brown of Vicksburg; four sons, Alex Brown, Alvin Brown, the Rev. Christopher Shawn Brown and Michael Brown, all of Vicksburg; four daughters, Avril J. Brown, Doris L. Brown and Brenda V. Brown, all of Vicksburg, and Joyce A. Brown of Aurora, Ill.; six sisters, Catherine Brown of St. Louis, Mo., Dorothy Williams of Los Angeles, Vivian Washington of Saginaw, Mich., and Lee Esther Combs, Carrie Smith and Ceretha Winger, all of Vicksburg; five brothers, Anderson Lee Lynn, James Lee Lynn, Willie Lynn and Edgar Price Jr., all of Vicksburg, and James E. Brown of St. Louis; his stepmother, Virgie Mae Brown of St. Louis; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other friends and relatives including Melvin Lynn of Vicksburg.
Robert S. Jobe
TALLULAH – Robert S. “Rabbit” Jobe died Friday, April 15, 2005, at his home in Tallulah. He was 60.
Mr. Jobe was a native and lifelong resident of Madison Parish and was an automobile mechanic. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He attended Parkview Baptist Church.
Mr. Jobe was preceded in death by his brother, James “Sonny” Jobe, and his sister, Erma Lee Carrender.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Warner of Tallulah; two sons, Robert S. Jobe and Mark Jobe, both of Tallulah; four grandchildren; two brothers, Tommy L. Jobe and Ray Jobe, both of Tallulah; and five sisters, Kathleen Marshall, Jennie Wilhite and Nellie Simmons, all of Tallulah, and Marie Castle and Linda Vines, both of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Parkview Baptist Church with the Rev. Cletus Moak officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
Rosalie McIntosh Parker
Rosalie McIntosh Parker, 91, of Laurel died Thursday, April 14, 2005 at the home of her daughter in Memphis, Tenn.
Mrs. Parker, widow of R.E. “Tony,” leaves a son, R.E. Parker Jr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Toni Lee Parker Greene and Gwenice Parker McLaughlin, both of Memphis; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Parker was a long-time resident of Laurel and a member of First Baptist Church. She was active in local garden clubs and in the PTAs of the schools her children attended in Laurel.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel. Burial will be in Lake Park Cemetery in Laurel. Dr. Larry Kennedy will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, which is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to William Carey College in Hattiesburg.
William Arthur Porter
William Arthur Porter died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Heritage House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 92.
Born in Georgetown, Miss., on Feb. 28, 1913, he was the son of the late Robert Feld Porter and Virginia Hudson Long Porter. For many years he was employed by the Vicksburg Post Herald and later owned the Porter Printing Company. In later years he owned the Vicksburg Drive-In and managed the Rivoli Theatre.
Mr. Porter was a member of the Paxton Masonic Lodge, a longtime member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible Class.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Bernice Davidson Porter, in 2002.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia P. Irby and her husband, William, of Butler, Ala.; two sons, William Malbery Porter and his wife, Velma Dunning Porter, of Starkville and John Arthur Porter and his wife, Linda Perkins Porter, of Montgomery, Ala.; eight grandchildren, William S. Irby IV of Memphis, Tenn., Catherine Irby Slater of Savannah, Ga., Dianne Irby Nortier of Bellevue, Neb., Patricia Irby Cheadle of Knoxville, Tenn., Devra Porter Rich of Madison, Wis., Susan Porter Shaffer of Miesau, Germany, John Andrew Porter of Montgomery, Ala., and Joel Chandler Porter of Birmingham, Ala.; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services are incomplete with Riles Funeral Home in charge.
