Johnson, Warner win top WC awards|[5/13/05]

Two of the most electrifying players at Warren Central were honored Thursday as the boy and girl athlete of the year.

Larry Warner rushed for more than 1,000 yards in leading WC’s foorball team to a 10-2 record.

A fourth-stringer entering his junior year, Warner came on and rushed for three 200-yard games in 2004 and started his senior season with a 300-yard, eight carry performance against Southaven.

He also played soccer and ran track.

Cookie Johnson led WC’s girls basketball team to the Class 5A state semifinals. The New Orleans signee averaged double digits in points and was the team’s best rebounder.

She was a three-time Vicksburg Post Player of the Year in basketball. She also played slow-pitch and fast-pitch softball.

Warner earned Vicksburg Post Offensive Player of the Year honors in football as a senior.
