A pair of two-sport stars were honored as St. Aloysius’ male and female athlete of the year at the school’s athletic awards ceremony on Monday.

Bern Ebersole, a swimmer and soccer player, and Sara Burrell, who played basketball and ran track, were picked.

Ebersole won the state championship in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke at the MHSAA state swim meet in October. He then moved to the soccer pitch, where he led the Flashes in scoring with 10 goals.

Burrell helped the St. Al girls’ basketball team reach the Class 1A South State satellite game, but truly excelled in track. She won her second consecutive Class 1A state title in the high jump on May 7, with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches.

She won the 2004 state title with a personal-best jump of 5 feet, 2 inches.
