Lena J. Caston
OAK GROVE – Lena J. Caston died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Carroll Nursing Home in Oak Grove. She was 87.
Mrs. Caston was born in Goldonna, La.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Sarah Ethel Donohue; two brothers, Dewey Donohue and Okley Donohue; and her husband, Warren G. Caston.
She is survived by two daughters, Yvonne “Bonnie” Demas of Hammond, La., and Sherry Lingo of Oak Grove; one brother, Eric Donohue of Oak Grove; one sister, Lexie White of Pioneer, La.; and two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Goodwill Baptist Church in Oak Grove with the Rev. Jimbo Herring officiating. Burial will follow at Redwing Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until the service.
Pallbearers will be Josh Ratliff, John White, Jimmy Lay, Chris Elms, Paul Ratliff and Richard Shelton.
Col. James Robert Loome
MOULTRIE, Ga. – Col. James Robert Loome, 79, of Moultrie died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at First Presbyterian Church of Moultrie with the Rev. Hugh Ward officiating. The family received friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. A military service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at Fort Meyer Post Chapel in Arlington, Va., with burial following at Arlington National Cemetery. Col. Loome was born April 16, 1926, at Fort Ethan Allen in Burlington, Vt.
He was the son of the late Gen. James Thomas Loome and the late Margaret Harrigan Loome. He graduated from West Point with the Class of 1946 at the age of 20 and served 26 years in the U.S. Army as a field artillery officer. During the course of his military career, he served in the Comptroller’s Office in postwar Europe, and he completed combat tours in Korea and Vietnam. Col. Loome received a master of business administration degree from Syracuse University and a master’s degree in international relations from George Washington University. He retired from active duty in 1972. Following his military career, he served as a director of General Research Corp., retiring in 1991. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Moultrie and had served on the board of deacons and as an elder at Falls Church Presbyterian Church in Virginia. Col. Loome was on the board of directors of the Army Distaff Foundation, Sheltered Occupational Workshop, Falls Church-McLean Day Care Center and Seven Corners Day Care Center. He was a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Lions and Kiwanis clubs. He also served as president of the West Point Class of 1946. While assigned to Fort Sill, Okla., he met Betty Nell Ford, a student at Oklahoma College for Women. They were married in Henryetta, Okla., in 1949 and had four children. In their retirement years, they were avid travelers and loved welcoming each of their 14 grandchildren.
Col. Loome is survived by his wife, Betty Nell Ford Loome of Moultrie; a son, James Lawrence Michael Loome and wife Nancy D. Loome of Clinton, Miss.; three daughters, Margaret Elizabeth Loome Matthews of Princeton, N.J., Jennifer Loome Marion and husband Ben Marion Sr. of Moultrie, and Linda Carol Loome Schwartz and husband Greg Schwartz of Marietta; a brother, Thomas Loome of Stillwater, Minn.; a sister, Carol Powers of Niceville, Fla.; and 14 grandchildren, James Loome, Jennifer Loome, Susan Loome, Margaret Marion, Maryanne Marion, Ryan Matthews, Samuel Marion, Adam Marion, Sarah Marion Hales, Ben Marion Jr., Gregory Schwartz, Jessica Schwartz, Tiffany Schwartz Small and Brittany Schwartz.
Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Hazel Fulcher McLellan
YAZOO CITY – Hazel Fulcher McLellan died Friday, May 13, 2005, at City Health and Rehabilitation Center in Yazoo City. She was 83.
A homemaker, Mrs. McLellan was a resident of Yazoo City.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe G. Houston Sr. and John “Jay” McLellan; a son, Joe G. Houston Jr.; and a brother, Norris Fulcher.
She is survived by one daughter, Malinda H. Thompson of Yazoo City; one brother, William H. Fulcher Sr. of Vicksburg; and two grandsons.
Services were Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Yazoo City with the Rev. George Woodliff officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Curtis Schrock
ODESSA, Texas – Curtis Schrock died Monday, May 16, 2005, at his home in Odessa, Texas. He was 70.
He was born in Oak Grove, La.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis E. Schrock and Bessie Armfield Schrock.
Survivors include his wife, Reba Harper Schrock of Odessa; one son, Curt Schrock of Odessa; one daughter, Pam Schrock of Odessa; one sister, Martha Clark of Marion, La.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 this morning at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Grove with the Rev. Leslie Yates officiating. Burial will follow at Kilbourne Cemetery in Kilbourne, La.
Horace H. Stamps
EDWARDS – Horace H. Stamps died Monday, May 16, 2005, at his home in Edwards. He was 66.
Mr. Stamps was born in Learned. He attended Learned School, Edwards Junior High School and Hinds County Agricultural High School. He was a veteran of the Army. He was a member of St. Mark M.B. Church and Morning Star M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Roberta Stamps; and a sister, Kathen Clark.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Ruth Stamps of Edwards; five children, Sharon Toaster of Bolton, Wanda Stamps, Valerie Stamps, Donna Elaine Stamps and Kelvin Stamps, all of Edwards; four brothers, Willie Stamps of Edwards, Robert Earl Stamps of Kansas City, Kan., Louis Stamps and Johnny Ray Stamps, both of Petersburg, Va.; two sisters, Eddie Coleman of Los Angeles and Ora Lee Sims of Chicago; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Morning Star M.B. Church in Utica. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 8 tonight at Lakeover Funeral Home in Jackson.
Claude Benjamin Williams
DELHI – Claude Benjamin Williams died Thursday, May 19, 2005, in Delhi. He was 21.
Mr. Williams graduated from Riverfield Academy in 2002. Formerly of Delhi, he was a resident of Rayville, La.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roddy Williams; a brother, Robert Williams; his paternal grandparents, R.C. and Ruth Williams; and his maternal great-grandfather, Ervin Williams.
He is survived by his mother, Kathy Williams of Delhi; two brothers, Roger Williams of Delhi and Charles Williams of Tennessee; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Sumner of Delhi; his maternal great-grandmother, Emma Sumner of Delhi; and other relatives and friends, including Marcie Rae Stevens of Wisner, La.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Delhi with Dr. Marcus Murphy and Lavelle Spillers officiating. Burial will follow at Faith Memorial Park Cemetery in Delhi under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 tonight at the church.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Williams, Chad Nelson, Ronnie Lezear, Shawn Sammons, Ryan Mathews and Jamie Perry.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Monroe, Donnie Monroe, Nathan “Scooter” Medlin, Jason Croft, Myles Stevens, Justin Perry, Brad Eldridge and Jed Dixon.
