Candidates for municipal office are being invited to what could be the last public forum before voters have their say in the June 7 general election.
The Wildwood Neighborhood Association is hosting the forum at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Anshe Chesed Temple, 2314 Grove St. Voters in the St. Aloysius voting precinct are invited, but David Gibson with the association said anyone from the public may attend.
This will also be the first forum since the runoff election, which officially set the slate of candidates who will appear on the ballot next month.
Candidates will be given 3 minutes to explain their platforms, which will be followed by questions from the neighborhood association, Gibson said.
On the June 7 ballot will be incumbent Mayor Laurence Leyens, 41, seeking his second term; former Mayor Joe Loviza, 65, an independent candidate; Warren County District 3 Supervisor Charles Selmon, 44, who won the Democratic nomination in the May 17 runoff election; and Republican Shirley N. Smollen, 69, who is seeking her first elective office.
Seeking the North Ward alderman’s seat are Vickie Bailey, 37, and Tommie Rawlings, 42, both independent candidates, and Democratic nominee District 2 Supervisor Michael Mayfield, 47, who beat incumbent Gertrude Young in the primary race.
The Wildwood neighborhood is in the North Ward and in the county’s District 2 and represented by Mayfield since 1996.
In the South Ward, Democratic nominee Pam Johnson, 39, will challenge incumbent Sid Beauman, 57, a Republican seeking his second term, in the general election. Johnson was also the party nominee four years ago.
