Augusta Dorsey Ballard
FAYETTE – Augusta Dorsey Ballard died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Natchez Regional Hospital in Natchez. She was 67.
Mrs. Ballard was a graduate of Liddell High School, Okalona Junior College and Mississippi Valley State College. She was employed as a clerk for the city of Fayette for 37 years. She was a member of Jefferson County Democratic Women’s Organization, Fayette Community Garden Club, United Friends Society and Bethlehem Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Leon Dorsey Sr. and Mary Ella White Dorsey; and a sister, Louise Dorsey Cain.
Survivors include her husband, Seth Ballard of Fayette; two daughters, Mary Belinda Ballard of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Valencia O. Brumfield of Memphis; one son, Selwyn K. Ballard of Dallas; four sisters, Daisy Cobbins and Mamie Crockett, both of Jackson, Janie Johnson of Madison and Rosemary Townsend of Sacramento, Calif.; five brothers, Monroe Ballard and Samuel Ballard, both of Memphis, Sylvester Ballard of Pasadena, Texas, the Rev. Andrew Dorsey of Fayette and Leon Dorsey Jr. of Natchez; three grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services will be at Noon Thursday at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Cannonsburg with the Rev. Percy Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 8 this evening at Rollins Funeral Home in Fayette.
Guenter G. Bork
Guenter G. Bork died Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 79.
A native of Germany, Mr. Bork became an American citizen in 1957 and had lived in Vicksburg for six months. He retired in 1975 as a tool and die maker from Ford Motor Co. He was a member of the Union Automotive Workers and was of the Lutheran faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gottlieb and Marie Schivek Bork.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen R. Bork of Vicksburg; a son, Edgar Bork of Kittery, Maine; two daughters, Audrey Sansome of Palm Bay, Fla., and Susan Hubis of Vicksburg; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home.
Dan Butler
Dan Butler died Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at Rankin Medical Center in Brandon. He was 81.
Born in Jones County, Mr. Butler lived in Vicksburg for 53 years and had been a Brandon resident for the past year. He was a retired barber, serving on the State Board of Barbers for 10 years. He served in the Navy in World War II and in the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Butler was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and DAV. He was a member of the Stevens Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star. He was a member of Bowmar Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Butler.
Survivors include three sons, Jimmy B. Butler and Scotty Butler, both of Vicksburg, and Ted R. Butler of Plano, Texas; a daughter, Nancy Bailey of Pearl; two brothers, Walter Butler of Moselle and Bill Butler of Jackson; one sister, Lanell Moore of Moselle; and 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Bailey, Adam Bailey, Andrew Bailey, Daniel Butler, John Geoffrey Butler, Chris Barrentine, Buford Fortenberry and Will Bradley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Amber Butler, Tammie Fortenberry, Rebecca Barrentine, Carolyn Bradley and Katie Butler.
Agnes Brunner Green
SNELLVILLE, Ga. – Agnes Brunner “Miss Sheenie” Green died Monday, May 23, 2005. She was 84.
Mrs. Green was a longtime resident of Vicksburg, where she was a graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic School. She was a retired from S.H. Kress Company. She was a member of Jackson Street M.B. Church, where her late husband, Harold S. Green, was a former pastor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Brunner and Inez Brunner, and her brother, Willie Brunner Jr.
Survivors include a nephew, James McGee of Snellville; and cousins including Marie Goodman, Melba Ford and Nicie Young, all of Vicksburg; and the Straughter, Walker and Naylor families of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jackson Street M.B. Church with the Rev. John Carroll, pastor, officiating.
Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.
John T. Hawkins
JACKSBORO, Texas – John T. “Johnny” Hawkins died Saturday, May 21, 2005, in Vicksburg. He was 82.
Mr. Hawkins was born in Bovina and was a resident of Jacksboro, Texas.
An electrician, he owned Johnny’s Electric.
He was preceded in death by a wife, Ozella Duncan Hawkins, and his parents, Luther M. and Alvetris Boden Hawkins.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Hawkins; two daughters, Sue Hazelbaker and Carolyn Johnson; two stepdaughters, Brenda Connor and LaDonna Powell; one stepson, Billy Rhone; and five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Southwest Baptist Church in Jacksboro with Jimmy Spalding and Lynn Powell officiating. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Coker Funeral Home.
Ira Parker Sr.
Ira Parker Sr. died Monday, May 23, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 30.
Mr. Parker was an auto mechanic for Vicksburg Car Store.
He was preceded in death by his father, Square Harris Sr.; three brothers, Willie Parker, Square Harris Jr. and Danny Lee Taylor; and a sister, Barbara Jean Baldwin.
He is survived by his mother, Flora Lee Parker of Vicksburg; two sons, Ira Parker Jr. and Vadoll Parker, both of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Iris Monique Curry of Vicksburg; his grandmother, Stella Mae Brown of Vicksburg; his fiance, Keshia Little of Vicksburg; 14 sisters, Victoria Parker, Flora Mae Parker, Mary Jane Parker, Rodena Gilmore, Yvonne Shelby, Irene Harris, Queenie Harris, Margaret Cole, Ayesha Davis, Frankie Williams, LouWanda Miles, Wilma Anderson, Mary Wilson and Dorothy Thomas, all of Vicksburg; 14 brothers, Elijah Parker, George Parker, Robert Parker Sr., Curtis Parker, Henry Harris, Charles Harris, Earnest Rogers, Anthony Williams, Mack Charles Taylor, Norh Taylor and John Taylor, all of Vicksburg, Michael Thomas of St. Joseph, James Tribble of Minneapolis and Lee Chiles of Detroit; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Rufus D. Smith
Rufus D. Smith died Monday, May 23, 2005, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. He was 66.
Mr. Smith was a construction worker. He was a member of Vicksburg Family Life Cathedral.
He is survived by his wife, Daisy Smith of Vicksburg; one son, Carl Washington of Vicksburg; five sisters, Emma M. Bernard, Mary Ruth Wilmore and Annie Maude Jones, all of Chicago, and Alice Mae Hill and Barbara J. Pierce, both of Vicksburg; four brothers, Frank Smith Jr. of Dallas, Willie Harold Smith of California, Harvey Ladell Smith of Oklahoma City and Dan Ester Smith of Philadelphia, Pa.; and other relatives and friends.

Herbert Douglas Williams Jr.
HERMANVILLE – Herbert Douglas “Doug” Williams Jr. died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at his home in Hermanville. He was 43.
A lifelong resident of Hermanville, Mr. Williams was a pipefitter.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Shannon Williams and Sherman Williams.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Williams of Hermanville; three sons, Adam Riley and Herbert Douglas Williams III, both of Hermanville, and Jarrod Ross of Columbia; three daughters, twins Lela and Emily Williams and Maegan Riley, all of Hermanville; his parents, Herbert Williams Sr. of Port Gibson and Margie Williams of Pattison; two brothers, Dwayne Williams and Shan Williams, both of Pattison; one sister, Dena Stevens of Cave City, Ark.; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Maher officiating. Burial will follow at Hermanville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson.
Pallbearers will be Larry Frost, Adam Frost, Dale Thum, Jamie Frost, Donald Dickinson, William Dickinson, Mark Williams and Ted Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Messer, Henry Sanders, Mark Anderson and Earl Williams.
