Mattie Lee Barry Cain

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Mattie Lee Barry Cain died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at her home in Colorado Springs. She was 81.

Mrs. Cain was a homemaker. She was a member of Loving Friendship No. Order of the Eastern Star Mount Alban Union No. 4, Bethlehem M.B. Church and American Legion Post No. 213.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Cain; her parents, Junior Nailor and Willie B. Parker Nailor; and a sister, Augustine N. Shelley.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharolyn Neal of Colorado Springs and Gwendolyn Cain of Memphis; one sister, Josephine Walton of Detroit; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem M.B. Church with the Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Kathryn F. Cook

Kathryn F. Cook died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 93.

Mrs. Cook was born in Newark, Ohio, and had lived in Vicksburg since 1938. She was a homemaker and a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred P. Cook.

Survivors include one son, Larry Cook of Vicksburg; two daughters, Mary Jones of Cullman, Ala., and Sarah Camp of Winnfield, La.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg with the Rev. Scott Reiber officiating. Burial will follow at Delhi Masonic Cemetery in Delhi.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the funeral home.

Mary Delaney

Mary Delaney died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 60.

Mrs. Delaney was born in Arkansas and had been a resident of Vicksburg for the past 40 years. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hassell Delaney.

Survivors include her two brothers, Raymond Emmons and Jim Emmons, both of Vicksburg; and six sisters, Opal Trujillo of Houston, Joyce Emmons of Ridgeland, Barbara Jones of Vicksburg, Paulette Wilkerson of Raymond, Marilyn McGrew of Rolling Fork and Sue Phillips of Pearl.

Glenwood Funeral Home of Vicksburg has charge of arrangements.

Johnnie Flaggs

Services for Johnnie Flaggs will be at noon Saturday at Mount Zion No. 4 M.B. Church with the Rev. Henry Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. today at Robbins Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Flaggs died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 94.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Flaggs was a member of Mount Zion No. 4 M.B. Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Willing Workers clubs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Anderson and Alberta Jenkins Lumpkins; her husband, Pearliss Flaggs; a daughter, Emma Susie Smith; four sisters, Bastie Turner, Fannie James, Rosie Lloyd and Georgia Douglas; and two brothers, Monroe Anderson and Ollie Lumpkins.

She is survived by four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives, including members of the Anderson, Lumpkins, Regan, Moore and Williams families.

Robert Barry Hall

PORT GIBSON – Services for Robert Barry Hall will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church in Port Gibson. Burial will follow at Thompson Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mr. Hall died Monday, May 30, 2005, at his home in Port Gibson. He was 55.

Mr. Hall is survived by his wife, Williametta Hall of Port Gibson; a daughter, Vanessa Bell of Port Gibson; two stepdaughters, Stephanie Thomas of Snellville, Ga., and Alanna Cotton of Richardson, Texas; two stepsons, Roderick Red and Frederick Red, both of Jackson; two brothers, Emmerick Ray Hall and Willie L. Hall, both of Port Gibson; one sister, Florene Crystain of Port Gibson; seven grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.

Lucille S. Kelly

Lucille S. “Scotty” Kelly, longtime resident of Vicksburg, died Thursday at The Olive Branch Senior Care Center in Tallulah. She was 87.

A native of Scooba, Miss., Mrs. Kelly lived most of her adult life in Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, W.T. “Bill” Kelly, also of Vicksburg.

Mrs. Kelly was a graduate of the Sisters of Mercy School of Nursing in Vicksburg and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She was an active volunteer worker with the Vicksburg Catholic School Mothers Club for many years. A registered nurse, Mrs. Kelly helped many residents of Vicksburg and surrounding communities during her more than 25 years of service with The Street Clinic.

Mrs. Kelly is survived by two sons, Wilsey S. Kelly of Vicksburg and Michael L. Kelly of Brandon; two granddaughters, Holly Kelly and India Wooten; one grandson, William M. “Bill” Kelly; two great-grandchildren, Logan Surber and Mary Makenna Wooten; two nieces, Dinnie Kelly Johnston and Patricia Kelly Cupit; three great-nephews, Sydney Johnston III, Jason Kelly Johnston and Joseph Scott Johnston; and other nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., with services at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Kelly’s grandchildren and great-nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Russell Barnes, Mr. Fred Harris, Mrs. Rose Cozzani, Mrs. Dorothy Griffith, Mrs. Mary Jane Lauderdale, Mrs. Priscilla Spencer, Dr. L.P. Neumann Jr., Dr. Thomas Sligh, the staff of Heritage House Retirement Center and the staff of The Olive Branch Senior Care Center.

Velton Queen Sr.

LAS VEGAS – Velton Queen Sr. died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas. He was 79.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Farrell and Rosa Queen; two brothers, Robert Queen and James Queen; five sisters, Ida Benson, Ruby Gibson, Fallie Copeland, Olea D. Smith and Nona Cook.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Queen of Las Vegas; one son, Velton Queen Jr. of Las Vegas; two sisters, Margaret Williams and Mary Taylor, both of Los Angeles; one brother, Elder Charles Queen of Los Angeles; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Palm Mortuary in Las Vegas is in charge of arrangements.

James Warren Vinson

HATTIESBURG – James Warren Vinson died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at his home in Hattiesburg. He was 26.

He was preceded in death by his parents James Richard Vinson and Sandra Bolding Vinson, both of Meridian; one brother, Victor Williams Vinson of Hattiesburg; maternal grandparents, Warren and Winnie Bolding, both of Meridian; and paternal grandparents, James and Mary Vinson, both of Austin, Texas.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove, La., Cemetery with the Rev. Byron Putnam officiating with Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove in charge. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Ruby Davis Wilkins

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Ruby Davis Wilkins died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Arkansas Convalescent Center in Pine Bluff, Ark. She was 103.

Mrs. Wilkins was born in Utica to Walter Green Davis and Mamie Dodson Davis. She moved to Pine Bluff in 1969.

For 21 years, she was canteen manager and cafeteria bookkeeper at Utica Consolidated School. She also worked with her husband in their family business, Dinky’s Cash Grocery.

She attended Lakeside United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff and was a member of Utica United Methodist Church. Her 100th birthday, Sept. 29, 2001, was proclaimed “Ruby Wilkins Day” in Pine Bluff.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Wiley “Dinky” Wilkins; a daughter, Elizabeth Phillips; three brothers, Grady Davis, Johnny Davis and Lamar Davis; and two sisters, Nettie Hammond and Inez Lutz.

Survivors include a daughter, Haley Phillips of Pine Bluff; one sister, Alice L. Robison of Raymond; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lakeside United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff with the Revs. Jim Brooks and John Embrey officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Utica City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7:30 tonight at Charles E. Fuller Funeral Services of Pine Bluff.
