OXFORD – The team with a postseason pedigree as wide as the Texas prairie will battle the newcomers who haven’t advanced this far on the baseball diamond in more than 30 years.

Perennial power Texas won three straight games to earn the school’s 30th regional championship in the illustrious history of the program. The Longhorns (49-15) are scheduled to play at Ole Miss (47-18) starting on Saturday. Times for the three-day tournament were yet to be announced.

“It should be an outstanding matchup,” interim Oklahoma coach Sunny Golloway said after his Sooners were defeated by Ole Miss 20-5 on Sunday. “Teams that have gotten to Omaha before have a huge advantage. Texas has been there before and they know what it takes to get there.”

Reserved seats at Oxford University Stadium have already been sold out and standing room only ticket books are being sold for $20. They will guarantee admisssion into the ballpark, Ole Miss ticket officials said.

Standing room only tickets will also be available on game days for $12 for adults and $7 for students and children.

Ole Miss breezed through the Oxford Regional, averaging more than 10 runs per game and winning all three matchups. The Rebels defeated Oklahoma twice en route to the championship. In the regular season, Texas swept the Big 12 rival Sooners in three games.

In beating Arkansas for the second time in as many days Monday, Taylor Teagarden and Chance Wheeless each flirted with the cycle in a 5-2 victory.

Teagarden and Wheeless each fell a triple shy of the cycle for Texas, which defeated the Razorbacks on consecutive days to win the regional.

Teagarden, the regional’s Most Outstanding Player, joined Wheeless and Robby Hudson with three hits apiece for Texas. Teagarden hit .565 in five games with three home runs.

“It seems like they are there every year,” said Ole Miss’ Justin Henry, referring to Texas’ postseason success.

Since Ole Miss’ last appearance in the College World Series, the Longhorns have won three national championships and played in six championship games.
