Rev. Charles David Christian

MADISON – The Rev. Charles David Christian died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 53.

Rev. Christian was born in Meridian to C.D. and Frances Marshall Christian. He graduated from Meridian High School, Millsaps College and the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

He served a residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville before moving to San Antonio, Texas, for his fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center. He served on the faculty in the Division of Gastroenterology and returned to Jackson to work in the Division of Digestive Diseases at UMC.

In 1991, Rev. Christian graduated from The General Theological Seminary in New York and became rector at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Bovina. He later served as associate to the rector at Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church in Madison.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Harsh Christian of Madison; a daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Christian of Madison; a son, Charles Christian of Madison; his mother, Frances M. Christian of Meridian; and two sisters, Anne C. Limbird of Atlanta and Amelie C. Weems of Greenville, S.C.

A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral with the Rt. Rev. Duncan M. Gray III officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the Mass at the church.

Gary Lamar Miller

MONROE – Gary Lamar Miller died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at his home in Monroe. He was 59.

Mr. Miller was an independent real estate appraiser and co-owner of the Wild Bird Center in Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.L. and Emma Lou Miller of Epps, La.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sarah Youngblood Miller; a son, Sean Marc Miller; and cousins.

Services were at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Swartz, La., with Dr. John Taylor officiating.

Pallbearers were Milton Causey, David Furr, Jerry Mayhall, Tim Peacock, Burg Ransom and Sonny Standifer.

Memorials may be made to Friends of Black Bayou or a favorite charity.

Robert Earl Raney Sr.

Robert Earl “Runt” Raney Sr. died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 78.

Mr. Raney was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was self-employed as a carpenter for 20 years. He was employed with Palmer Mobile Home for 10 years and Magnolia Mobile Home for 20 years as a cabinet builder. He was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary H. Hampton Raney; his parents, Samuel Francis and Alma Lou Pettway Raney; four brothers, William H. Raney, John Buford Raney, Welbur Raney and James H. Raney; and two sisters, Sally Emfinger and Annie Lum.

Survivors include his wife, Freddie Farnham Raney of Jackson; three sons, William “Billy” Raney of Port Gibson and Robert E. “Bobby” Raney and John Harold Raney, both of Vicksburg; two stepsons, Joe Farnham and Sean Farnham, both of Jackson; one daughter, Diane Louise Cook of Vicksburg; two stepdaughters, Debbie Fallien and Vicky Fitzpatrick, both of Jackson; one brother, Victor Raney of Texarkana, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Chester, Brody Cook, Randy Cook Jr., James Walter Raney, Herschel Raney and Dennis Raney.

Pallbearers will be Timmy Raney, Robby Raney, Mike Carpenter, Ryan Raney, Jimmy Raney and James Chester.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with Burt Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 this evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Ridgeway Baptist Church, 4669 Redwood Road, Vicksburg, Miss. 39183.

Willie Washington

Services for Willie Washington will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Travelers Baptist Church with the Rev. Buddy Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 5 tonight at Robbins Funeral Home and Tuesday at the church from noon until the service.

Mr. Washington died Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 84.

Mr. Washington was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe Washington and Dora Moore Washington; two sisters, Clorda Williams and Teresa Favors; three brothers, Monroe Washington, Eddie Moore and Clarence Washington; and a stepson, Victor Evans.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Washington of Aurora, Ill.; one daughter, Barbara Ann Washington of Vicksburg; one stepdaughter, Mary Joyce Evans of Vicksburg; three sons, Ernest Washington of Aurora, Jerry Dewayne Evans of Vicksburg and Willie Rankins of San Diego, Calif.; four stepsons, Rictor Evans, Donald Evans, Ronald Evans and John Evans, all of Vicksburg; four sisters, Beulah Mae Harris and Gladys Moore, both of Chicago, Regina Bradley of Detroit and Minnie Lee Brown of Anguilla; four brothers, Steve Washington of Vicksburg, Amos Moore of Chicago, James Barnes of Saginaw, Mich., and Charles Moore of Los Angeles; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including Joyce Evans, Vicki Robinson, Mary C. Washington and Sherry Young, all of Vicksburg.
