School lunch prices going up in August: Cost of bread up 65 percent, milk, 21 percent|[6/17/05]

The price of a lunch in Vicksburg and Warren County public schools will rise to $1.75 per meal when the new school year begins Aug. 10.
“The cost of food has gone up and the fuel adjustment in food delivery has increased,” said Gail Kavanaugh, district nutrition director. She said the price of food at schools had not increased in 10 years.
For example, she said, the cost of milk has risen 21 percent over last year and the cost of bread is up 65 percent.
In addition to the cost of the food and getting it delivered, Kavanaugh said labor costs have also risen.
The Vicksburg Warren School District Board of Trustees approved the increase in a regular monthly meeting Thursday evening.
The current cost for students paying full meal price in elementary classes is $1.25; in high school, the cost currently is $1.50.
The full price for a breakfast for an elementary school student also was raised, from 60 cents to 75 cents.
