Virdia Bradley

MAYERSVILLE – Virdia Bradley died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 90.

Formerly of Helena, Ark., Mrs. Bradley was a resident of Mayersville.

She is survived by a daughter, Unita Blackwell of Mayersville; one granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters.

Services were at noon today at Rose Hill M.B. Church in Mayersville. Burial followed at Moon Lake Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Leonard Butler Sr.

Services for Leonard “Bud” Butler Sr. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem M.B. Church with the Rev. Henry Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from noon until the service.

Mr. Butler died Saturday July 2, 2005, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 85.

Mr. Butler was a retired heavy-equipment operator and self-employed mechanic. He was a member of Mount Zion No. 4 M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Tyler; his mother and stepfather, Eliza Ann and Austin Butler; one brother, Johnny Woods; and one sister, Viola Neal.

Survivors include his wife, Clarise Jackson Butler; six sons, Melvin Butler, Eddie Ray Butler, Derrick Butler and Elvis Butler, all of Vicksburg, Leonard Butler Jr. of Detroit and Cedric Earl Butler of Romble, Mich.; two stepsons, Larry Butler and Charles Hughes, both of Vicksburg; six daughters, Senovia Butler, Deborah Butler and Carolyn Butler, all of Vicksburg, Sharon Butler of Detroit, and Ernestine Butler and Barbara Butler, both of Austin, Texas; one stepdaughter, Velva Ann Bullatte of Detroit.

Glenn Brown

RUSTON, La. – Glenn Brown, 81, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 5, 2005, after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 this evening at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, La. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2005, at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston, La.

The Rev. Chris Witt will officiate.

Glenn was a retired contractor. He owned Glenn Brown Plastering and Ornamental Iron. He was also known for his hobby as the “Train Man.” He built trains and ran them on the tracks he built next to his home. Glenn was a member of South Parkway Church in Ruston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Brown; and granddaughter, Michelle Bendetti.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Frances Cook Brown of Ruston, La.; his brother, Max Brown and wife, Ina of Fredericksburg, Texas; and one sister, Donna McWilliams of Monroe, La.; his son, Jerry Brown of Birmingham, Ala.; and five daughters, Glenda Twitty of El Dorado, Ark., Judy Gardner and husband, Houston of Jasper, Ala., Barbara Davis and husband, Lex of Jackson, Miss., Rebekah Huang and husband, Johnson of Topeka, Kan., and Debbie Titone and husband, Michael of Vicksburg, Miss.

He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Kyto.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Lex Davis Jr. of Jackson, Miss., Jamie and Chris Hughes, both of Ruston, La. and Sam Gardner of Jasper, Ala.; also his great-grandson, Brandon Walden of Jasper, Ala.; and great-nephew, Jeremy Cook of Ruston, La.

Feeney P. Elliott

Feeney P. Elliott died Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 84.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, she was the daughter of the late Linton R. and Annie Doyle Pinkston.

Mrs. Elliott was a 1938 graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, St. Paul’s Altar Society, Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Girl Scout leader for a number of years and a member of the River Region Auxiliary.

Mrs. Elliott was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph K. Elliott in 1982; and a daughter, Cornelia Ann Elliott in 1962.

Mrs. Elliott is survived by a son, Joseph C. and wife Myra K. Elliott of Birmingham, Ala.; two granddaughters, Jody Lynn and husband Steve Dunning of Asheville, N.C., and Katherine G. and husband Clint Cole of Belleaire, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Maddie Rose and Asher Elliott Dunning; extended family members, Shirley Farish of Vicksburg and Janet Wehmeyer of Clearwater, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with Rosary at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Holmes, Joe Israel, John Smith, Gid Whitaker, Wilson Boozer, Murray Pinkston, James Smith and Frank Vollor.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Farish, Leo Boolos Jr., Robert Huss, Frank Whitaker, Dr. Thomas Smith, Dr. Murray Whitaker, Denny Bechtel, Bob Cunny, Nell Pinkston Cunny and David Elliott.

Eddie Sims Sr.

Services for Eddie Sims Sr. will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church in the Freetown community with the Rev. Joseph Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mr. Sims died Sunday, July 3, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 89.

A native of Warren County, Mr. Sims was a retired truck driver for Vicksburg Redi-Mix Concrete. He was a member and deacon at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Sally Howard Sims; a daughter, Dorothy Sims Jackson; a stepdaughter, Mary Louise Carter; a son, Jimmy Sims; a stepson, Mitchell Young Jr.; five brothers, Robert Sims Jr., Fred Sims, Albert Sims, Allen Sims and Tommy Lee Sims; and two sisters, Pinkie Harris and Lena Pampley.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Richardson Sims of Vicksburg; two sons, Eddie Sims Jr. of Vicksburg and Charlie Gray of Muskegon, Mich.; seven stepsons, Gregory L. Young, Michael Young, Willie Earl Young and Zachary Young, all of Vicksburg, Elbert Young of Decatur, Ga., and Samuel Richardson and Sam Richardson, both of Maryland; four stepdaughters, Deloris Dixon and Annie Lee Giles, both of Washington, D.C., and Cariola Price and Margie Thambi, both of Vicksburg; one brother, Johnny Sims; and three sisters, Emma Ree Hebron and Bertha Lee Burse, both of Vicksburg, and Rosie Thomas of Chicago.

Roberta H. Smith

Roberta H. Smith died Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 88.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Isiah Smith, and her parents, the Rev. Elijah and Josie Hegler.

She is survived by a son, Robert Smith of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Eulanda Gail Smith of Vicksburg.

Robert Lee Young

UTICA – Robert Lee Young died Thursday, June 30, 2005, in Jackson. She was 86.

Mrs. Young was a retired school teacher. She was a resident of Utica.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home in Utica with the Rev. Kenneth Higgenbottom officiating. Burial will follow at Strawbridge M.B. Church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
