FLORENCE – Johnie Jackson Ashley, 92, died Friday at University Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl with burial at Bethlehem Cemetery in Pinola, Ms. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ashley had lived in Florence for four years, coming here from Simpson County. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, a farmer and worked for Simpson County. As a young man, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Mr. Ashley endeared himself to all of those who came in contact with him. He was a gracious, humble gentleman who always remembered to smile and thank those who helped and cared for him. His sweet manners were an inspiration to his family, friends and caregivers.

Survivors include sons John A. and wife Jane Carol Ashley of Vicksburg and Malcolm J. and wife Charlene Ashley of Delta, La.; daughters Martha A. Brady of Pearl, Linda Faye and husband Red Parrett of Clinton, Bobbie J. and husband Larry Smith of Brandon; sisters, Mrs. Lorea Durden of Kent, Texas, and Mrs. Earline Bankhead of Crystal Springs; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Lorene Caffrey Hamby

BASTROP, La. – Lorene Caffrey Hamby died Friday, July 8, 2005, at her home. She was 94.

Mrs. Hamby was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Ernest E. Hamby and a daughter, Ruth Jones.

She is survived by seven daughters, Pearl Robinson, Tina Atkins, Gloria LeBrun and JoAnn Turner, all of Bastrop, Minnie Halloway of Sterlington, La.; Hazel Nations of Midwest City, Okla.; and Myrtle Porter of Vicksburg; a brother, Henry Caffrey; 22 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, including her caregiver, Ivey Gene Winnon.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Cox Funeral Home chapel in Bastrop with the Revs. Jimmie Herring and Marty Black officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Charles Jones, Billy Jones, Jack Jones, Wayne Jones, Roy Jones, Mike Robinson, Eugene Herlong, Ellis Nations, Bobby Porter and Ernie Turner.
