Flora Garrett

Flora Garrett died Saturday, July 9, 2005, at Olive Branch in Tallulah. She was 89.

Miss Garrett was born in Vicksburg to the late Benton M. Garrett and Esma Cozzani Garrett. She retired as a secretary from the U.S. government and was a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Benton M. Garrett Jr.

She is survived by a niece, Kay Boolos of Vicksburg; a nephew, Michael Garrett of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and a sister-in-law, Libby Garrett of Oklahoma City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, officiating.

Riles Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Paul A. Grantham

ROLLING FORK – Paul A. Grantham died Friday, July 8, 2005, at his home in Rolling Fork. He was 84.

Born in Leflore County, Mr. Grantham was a longtime resident of Rolling Fork. He was a retired salesman for Service Lumber Co. in Rolling Fork. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II.

He is survived by a sister, Catherine Bird of Kansas City, Mo.

Memorial services were at 11 a.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Reese Kyzar officiating. Burial followed at Mound Cemetery.

Geraldine Dearman Newton

DELHI – Geraldine Dearman Newton died Friday, July 8, 2005, at her home in Delhi. She was 73.

Mrs. Newton was a lifelong resident of Delhi.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Gene Newton; a brother, Richard Dearman; and her parents, Lester and Emma Velma Upton Dearman.

She is survived by two sons, Billy Wayne Newton and Joel Arnold Newton, both of Delhi; a daughter, Barbara Otis of McNeal, Ariz.; one brother, James Earl Dearman of Delhi; one sister, Laura Frances Fleming of Delhi; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services were at 10 a.m. today at Newton Baptist Church with the Revs. Eddy Shoemaker and S.B. Boyett officiating. Burial followed at Newton Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Delhi.

Pallbearers were Todd Newton, Matthew Otis, Ricky Dearman, B.J. Fallin, David Fallin and Paul Taylor.

Helen Marie Smith

OAK GROVE – Helen Marie Smith died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. She was 85.

Born in East Carroll Parish, Miss Smith was a resident of Oak Grove.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Bessie Smith, and a brother, Wyatt Smith.

She is survived by a brother, N.J. Smith of Fort Worth, Texas; and three sisters, Fannie Ruth Williams and Lillie Lee Rawls, both of Oak Grove, and Bessie Mae King of Owasso, Okla.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. J.T. Wheat officiating. Burial will follow at New Forest Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
