Schreiner clears path to hall of fame|[7/22/05]

It’s been nearly 40 years since Bart Schreiner blocked for former Green Bay Packer great and NFL Hall of Famer Jim Taylor as a center at Hinds Community College.

While the 68-year-old Vicksburg resident can barely bend down in a three-point stance because of a recent knee replacement, he can still give tips to his grandson, Brian Holloway.

Holloway is a rising sophomore lineman at Porters Chapel Academy. Schreiner spends a lot of his retirement helping to develop his grandson’s skills either in the weight room or on the field.

“He’s pretty neat,” Holloway said. “He’s taught me how to use my hands when I block and how to long snap.”

Not bad to get advice from a Hall of Famer, which Schreiner will become in October when he joins Taylor and other Eagle sports greats in the Hinds Community College Athletic Hall of Fame.

“It was kind of a surprise when they told me, but they’ve been working on it for the last three years,” Schreiner said. “About two years ago, they asked me to start putting together my resum
