Jamie Augusta McCord “Pat” Holladay died Thursday, July 21, 2005, in Jackson. She was 89.

Mrs. Holladay was born in Mobile, Ala.. She received a bachelor’s degree from Springhill College and graduated from nursing school at Mobile General Hospital. She was married to John R. Holladay in 1939 and moved to Springhill, La. She was a nurse for 50 years.

A longtime resident of Gulfport, she was a member of several art associations and St. Peter’s-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.

She also served the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi as a volunteer nurse at Camp Bratton-Green near Canton, where she was known as “Nurse Holly” to several generations of campers.

She lived in Vicksburg from 1979 until 2001. She was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal.

In Gulfport and Vicksburg she was also a member of the Daughters of the King and the American Red Cross, through which she served on response teams for disaster-relief throughout the Southeast. She received the Golden Deed Award for community Service in 1989.

Survivors include her daughter, Anne Stokes of Ormond-by-the-Sea, Fla., and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal. Visitation will be in the parish hall from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Charlotte Ann Karstendiek

MONROE, La. – Charlotte Ann Karstendiek died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe, La. She was 64.

Mrs. Karstendiek was born in Oak Grove and lived in Monroe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Karstendiek, and her father, James Louis Hopkins.

Survivors include her mother, Doris Hopkins of Oak Grove; two sons, Rob Karstendiek Jr. of East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Michael Karstendiek of Pineville, La.; one daughter, Pam Shoemaker of Monroe; one brother, Marvin Hopkins of Oak Grove; four sisters, Ola Marie Joles of Oak Grove, Nadine Spruell of Baton Rouge, LaShara Arender of Tallulah and Cathy Hopkins of West Monroe; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews and special friends Kay and John Dowling.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beulah Baptist Church in Oak Grove with the Revs. Jon Marcs, Kenny Herring and Nick Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah Cemetery in Oak Grove. Visitation will be from 1 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a celebration service from 6 until 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Chad Barrett, Ricky Joles, Lyn Sanders, Ferrell Spruell, Jim Sullivan and Shea Arender.

Jinx Peterson Smith Sr.

Jinx Peterson Smith Sr. died Friday, July 22, 2005, while doing underwater work at his family’s business at the Vicksburg harbor. He was 37.

Mr. Smith was born in Batesville and had lived in Vicksburg most of his life. He was a 1986 graduate of All Saints’ Episcopal School, where he was a 4-H All Star.

He was a certified diver, a licensed towboat pilot and a certified General Motors Mechanic. He was co-owner of Beavers Diesel, Big River Shipbuilders, Smith Brothers Inc. and Vicksburg Montessori Christian School. He was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal.

Survivors include his wife, Lyn Luckett Smith; two sons, Jinx Peterson Smith Jr. and Christopher Stanton Smith; one daughter, Patricia Stafford Smith; two brothers, J.O. Smith III and Patrick Smith; one sister, Lela Smith Flowers; and his parents, J.O. Smith Jr. and Petesy Peterson Smith.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal, 900 South St., with the Rev. Michael C. Nation, rector, officiating. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 this evening and from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Monday in McInnis Parish House Hall.

Pallbearers will be Carl Flowers, Bryant McNeely, Troy Nugent, Lionel Watts, Lee Thames, Rusty Blackwell, Fred Budwine, George Dixon, Macon Moore and Jeff McRaney.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Nowell, Leon Parker, Martin Pace, Greg Bryan, Adam Bryan, Stewart Dixon, Billy Ray Carroll, John Carley, Bendel White, James Burton, Ronnie Andrews, Frank Segree, Gad Segree, Hugh Smith, P.C. Cummins, Big River Shipbuilders employees, Yazoo River Towing employees, Daniel Ettinger, Sandra Barnes, Leigh Hyland and Mississippi Hardware Employees.

H.W. Sanders

FAYETTE – H.W. Sanders died Friday, July 22, 2005, at River Region Medical Center West Campus. He was 77.

Mr. Sanders was born in Jefferson Davis County and was a longtime resident of Fayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Pearlie Sanders.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lillie Chapman Sanders of Vicksburg; one son, Harold Sanders of Vicksburg; one daughter, Brenda Wiggins of Prairieville, La.; seven grandchildren, Will Sanders, Zaye Sanders and Brandy Love, all of Vicksburg, and Chad Ikard, Chris Ikard, Corey Ikard and Cody Ikard, all of Prairieville, La.; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Spencer Funeral Home Chapel in Fayette with the Rev. Ben Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Buie Cemetery in Union Church. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. today until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be his five great-grandsons and his great-nephew, Randy Bass.

Casper Dennis Walker

Casper Dennis Walker died Friday, July 22, 2005, at River Region Medical Center West Campus. He was 81.

Mr. Walker was born in Boyd, Fla., and had lived in Vicksburg since 1947.

He was a retired sheet-metal worker for Magnolia Mobile Homes and served in the Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Bowmar Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a church bus driver. He also was a member of Stevens Masonic Lodge No. 121 F.&A.M.

Survivors include his wife, Lelia S. Walker of Vicksburg; three sons, Robert Lee Walker of Atlanta, John William Walker of Lake Helen, Fla., and George Dennis Walker of Deltona, Fla.; two daughters, Virginia Sue White of Lima, Ohio, and Norma Ann Kimball of Bastrop, La.; one brother, Charles J. Walker of Perry, Fla.; one sister, Annie Jo Branen of Perry, Fla.; one grandchild and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Vicksburg with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Posey Jr., Joe McCormimck, Clyde Posey Sr., Mike McGee, Bob McClure, Roy Hindericks and T.G. Kimball.

Honorary pallbearers will be B.C. Smithhart, Ellis Cummins, Dr. Lamar McMillin, the Bowmar Baptist Church Adult Men’s Sunday School Class, James McGee and Justin Moody.
