Twice before, Adam Edleston has sniffed the rare air of a perfect 300 game.

Earlier this month at Red Carpet Lanes, the 29-year-old Vicksburg bowler finally reached perfection with. Yet it was a game earlier this year that had Edleston thinking that a 300 game was possible.

“I shot a 290 early this year,” Edleston said. “I had a spare in the very first frame and then had 11 straight strikes.

“Because of that, there wasn’t that much pressure. Back in 2001, I had a 299. I got strikes in every frame until the last one when I made a spare,” Edleston said.

He said he wasn’t thinking much about the perfect game until the final frame.

“When I threw the 11th strike, I thought ‘this is pretty good.'”

He then knocked down strike No. 12 to complete the deal.

Red Carpet Lanes owner Don Shehane said Edleston was one of the most likely candidates among the alley’s regulars to pull off the 300 game.

“He has been bowling really well this summer and already had two honor scores before the 300 game,” Shehane said. “I saw most of the game. When people started hollering, I knew he was close.”

Shehane said Edleston’s perfect game was the second bowled at Red Carpet Lanes during the current 2004-05 season.

Edleston has been bowling for the past 10 years. He started in Jackson but has bowled in Vicksburg for the past nine years. He is regarded as one of the top bowlers at Red Carpet Lanes and is active in three leagues.

Edleston’s wife, Rena, who also bowls in three leagues, saw the game as well.

“He hasn’t made too much of it,” she said.

Edleston’s current season pin average is 198 and his handicap average is the same.
