Kendell Edwin Anderson
CLINTON – Kendell Edwin Anderson died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, in Sevierville, Tenn. He was 42.
Mr. Anderson was a fleet manager. He was a resident of Clinton.
He is survived by his wife, Rena Anderson of Clinton; two sons, Kennedy Anderson and Jason King, both of Clinton; two daughters, Lauren Anderson and Brittany Anderson, both of Vicksburg; his parents, Bernice and Fay Anderson of Magee; two brothers, Wendell Anderson of Magee and Benny Anderson of Wiggins; one sister, Melinda James of Magee; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services were Friday at Dry Creek Baptist Church in Magee. Burial followed at the church cemetery under the direction of Tutor Funeral Home in Magee.
Kennedi Milan Brinkley
HOUSTON – Kennedi Milan Brinkley died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, in Houston. She was 4.
Survivors include her parents, Gerald Brinkley of Dallas and Khelli L. Knox of Houston; one brother, Gerald Brinkley Jr. of Dallas; one sister, Myla Brinkley of Dallas; her maternal grandparents, J.W. Knox Sr. and Georgia T. Knox, both of Vicksburg; her paternal grandparents, Henry Brinkley and Vivian B. Jeffery, both of Vicksburg; and other relatives and friends.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Charles Percy Burton Jr.
Services for Charles Percy “Papa Smurff” Burton Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Donnie Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 this evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Burton died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was 83.
Mr. Burton was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was a veteran of World War II and was a prisoner of war in Germany. He was a private first class with the 119th Infantry Regiment of the Army. He was a tree surgeon.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Percy Burton Sr. and Inez Fuller Burton; three brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include one daughter, Becky Adams of Mound; six sons, Charles Percy Burton III and Johnny Ray Burton, both of Vicksburg, David Burton of Gatlinburg, Tenn., Kenneth Burton of Gulfport, Fritz Burton of Angola, La., and Geary Burton of Laurel; two sisters, Marie Selby of Redwood and Willie Mae Miller of Conroe, Texas; nine grandchildren; and other relatives and friends including Peggy Cockrell of Vicksburg.
Pallbearers will be Joe Walley, Charles Percy Burton III, William Day, Michael L. Jeandron, J.B. Sanders and Geary Burton.
James S. Callender Sr.
James S. Callender Sr. died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at his son’s home. He was 66.
Mr. Callender was a native of Natchez. He had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1964. He retired from Horizon Casino as a dealer. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for Bungee and LeTourneau.
He was a member of Redbone United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Buren O. Callender Sr. and Lillian E. Wallace Callender; and four brothers, Buren O. Callender Jr., Edward Glen Wallace, Howard Wayne Wallace and Billy Ray Wallace.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia R. Callender of Vicksburg; two daughters, Lisa Darlene Moore of Pearl, Ill., and Livia Suzanne Callender of Vicksburg; one son, James S. “Jimmy” Callender of Vicksburg; two brothers, Robert Coley of Vicksburg and Malcolm Ray Callender of Jackson, La.; five sisters, B.B. Twiner and Judy Lynn Jones, both of Hazlehurst, Frances Gonzales of Houston, Betty Joyce Malone of Wesson and Hazel Ann Callender of Jackson; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fisher Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Clare Biedenharn officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 this evening at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Victor Hoofman, Scott Hoofman, Chris Laird, Andy Green, Todd Myers, Dustin Longmire, Cody Longmire, Roy McGraw and Brett Longmire.
Honorary pallbearers will be Monette Vines, George Vines, Reece Vines, Russell Vines, Lee Roberts, Randy Hoofman, Ronnie Longmire and John Lee Dover.

Ira Jones Jr.
Ira Jones Jr. died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 74.
Mr. Jones was a carpenter.

Otis W. Sandlin
Otis W. Sandlin, age 84, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at River Region West.
Mr. Sandlin was born in Steele, Missouri. He had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1963. He was a retired, self-employed contractor.
He was preceded in death by Lois Sandlin, his beloved wife of 58 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Beatrice Sandlin.
Mr. Sandlin was very active in the Program of Alcoholics Anonymous from 1956 until his health began to fail. By Mr. Sandlin’s life and example, he touched hundreds of lives and saved many. He attended the School of Alcoholic Studies in Athens, Ga. He worked two years at Parchman, where he set up the Program of AA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Sandlin is survived by his cousin, Bobby Lawrence of Steele, Mo.; a special friend and caregiver, Jackie McKay of Vicksburg; and his beloved pet, Scamper.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in the Glenwood Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bobby Weatherly officiating. Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from noon until the service.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Johnston, Richard Marcus, Chris Morley, David Miller, Scott Phipps and Will Halpin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy McDaniel, John Scarff, Rick Marcus, Hank Hodges, Jerry McCarthy, Russ Watson, Tommy Weissinger, Dr. Russell Barnes, Wayne Johnston, Jim James, Will Brokaw, James Brokaw, Jim Brokaw, and members of The Harbor Club and Vicksburg Group of Alcoholic Anonymous.

Mable Bernice Thompson
EDWARDS – Mable Bernice Thompson died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at Forest Hill Nursing Home in Jackson. She was 69.
Miss Thompson was a member of Friendship M.B. Church in Edwards.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Vernon Thompson, Rufus Thompson and Norvel Thompson; and one sister, Eddie Mae Morgan.
Survivors include two brothers, J.C. Thompson of San Francisco and Leodis Thompson of Wichita, Kan.; three sisters, Callie Thompson of Edwards, Bessie Cain of Wichita and Charlie B. Pritchett of San Diego; and other relatives.

Robert Daniel Tompkins
EDWARDS – Robert Daniel “Bobby” Tompkins died Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, as the result of an automobile accident. He was 19.
Born in Jackson, Mr. Tompkins lived in Edwards and was a former resident of Vicksburg and Eagle Lake. He was a student at Hinds Community College in Raymond and was a member of Eagle Lake Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joanie Tompkins McMillin, in 1991.
He is survived by his grandparents who adopted him, Robert Newman and Aillene Tompkins of Edwards; his father, Jeff McBroom of Vicksburg; his stepmother, Bette Paul of Eagle Lake; three brothers, Robert Gregory Tompkins of Wesson, Timothy Tompkins of Vicksburg and Russ Carraway of Utica; and a sister, Robin Elizabeth McBroom of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery in Edwards.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Destry McDaniel, Chase Nevels, Taylor Jones and Chuck Paul.
